someone please get deep and explain what it is and what the differences are

I'm not getting deep, but I can tell you that on they are somewhat similar. When they changed to the OBD2 they added more sensors. The OBD2 ECU looks for these sensors and has different plugs. Fortunately for swaping purposes the shock tower plugs are the same between the OBD1 and OBD2 harnesses. There's just a few extra wires that you'll notice on the OBD2 engines. Hopes this helps to explain. I'm sure someone here knows more of the exact workings of the two.
