Default needed b20 info.....

here is the deal. Considering a b20 shortblock to replace my recently hydro'd LS engine. I am pretty sure that the cylinder head is fine and have been told that the b20 is a simple matter of bolt up and i will actually see improved performance over the b18 lower end. Is this the case??

TIA

The torque curve is flatter on the b20 meaning that you will feel alot faster because of more torque all the time but you might not be fast just quick

Yes you will make more hp and tq if you use a b20 bottom end but it won't be much. Search for b20 non vtec dyno charts to see how much hp and tq you can expect. Also I believe you can use your ls head with the b20 bottom as well. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes you will make a bit more hp and torque. The B20 powerband will also be much wider, it'll make more torque at an earlier RPM.

If I was in your situation, I'd definitely go with the B20 over another B18B.

actually you'll most likely be putting down about 125-126 hp to the wheels...with the ls ecu, ls intake manifold, and a b-series exhaust manifold...and thats with an intkae and exhaust...and i think that the trq will be about 130...check out the hybrid forum...thats where i got the numbers

Yes, it is definitely the case. Despite the rather small 138cc displacement difference, there was a day and night difference between my B18B and B20Z. The 9.6:1 compression probably also makes a difference. In acy case, this is probably the best possible thing you can do if you have an LS motor. There is NOTHING you can do to an allmotor LS to get that kind of torque.

perhaps due to the improved bore/stroke ratio?

who knows, but word is that the B20 is a torque MONSTA!

i know, i ran my B20VTEC without VTEC for a while, and it hauled over my B16A (except above 6000rpm)

but hey, it is a pretty unfair comparison...

t..

PS why not get a B20 long block, leave the head on(same as LS) and save the cash on buying a head gasket etc?

just a thought...(my original reason for replying to this thread!!!)
