Default Motors

New guy here and I have some questions... (forgive me if i use improper terminology, and the like, I've only been "studying" honda motors and whatnot for a week or so. )

First, some background info...

I plan on purchasing a '94 Civic Hatchback (somewhere in that body style.), so that's the car that I will be building off of.

Questions:

From what I've gathered, a h22 is good for going in a straight line... which is all I will really get into... (no SCCA racing for me, yet...). But I've read complaints about massive understeer. Seems like I've found more cons' than pros'.

Also, I've checked into the b20 motor... Correct me if I am wrong, but that is a SUV motor with a decent amount of TQ? Something that hondas really need. So, people put together b20 blocks with b16's or b18 heads...So, the original b20's do not come stock with Vtec? Which leads people to purchase b16 and b18 heads, for the Vtec cams? This all leads to my first BIG question:

1. Which is better for a street/ .25 racing? The B20 w/ B18/16 heads, or the h22 ?

2. Where would be a source to find JDM and USDM-spec motors and heads for purchase?

3. When doing an engine swap, you need new motor mounts and transmission mounts. What about a new axle, driveshaft, and CV Shaft, to accomadate the new motor? Or are all B-Series motors a fairly clean swap?

4. With the new motor- meant to be in another car- affect the type of exhaust that I will need to buy? (My thinking is the headers location may be in a different place, and if you buy an exhaust kit made for that motor, it will not fit the deminsions of the small hatchback, because it was made for something bigger? I may be wrong, but it's better to ask than (*^% up the first time.

5. Are there any brands to stay away from, in terms of overated HP gains, cheapness in the build quality, and plain old idiots that rip you off?

6. In the past, LSDs have made a big difference in launches with my RWD vehicles, but in the FWD, 4-banger setting, will a 1.5 way LSD help in ways of traction and launches... (Just asking because I have not seen many people with LSDs..)

7. In the long run, I plan on running a multi-stage direct port nitrous set up (Many of you guys will go against that, but I tend to do things the RIGHT way). I've heard that Honda is notorious for having oil-starvation issues, and the stock internals are not great for the hotter temps.

What All Should I Replace In The Internals?

Thanks guys!

Peace!

First off, Id reccomend getting just a whole GSR swap instead of a h22 or b20 with b18/16 blocks.. GSR engines are probably the absolute easiest to install in an EG(92-95) civics. Its mostly a bolt on affair, except to retain the a/c you need an a/c bracket from a 94-95 or so del sol dohc vtec.
now for your questions:
1. id get neither, the b18c1 is great
2. hmotorsonline.com get the complete swap for 3149.
3. you need everything, ecu, axles, all of it.
4. Your exhaust will fit, however to get the headers to connect up with your cat. you have to go to a muffler shop and get them to fit it for you, which is pretty cheap. You use the exhaust from your make and model and year of your car its going to be put on, not the engine type.
5. For good shops, look in the hondatech sponsor marketplace, almost all of them are 100% trustworthy, and will give you an honest opinion on products.
6. I know Im getting an LSD and Ive heard they are weird to get used to, but they help a lot cornering, but since you mostly plan on gonig straight, I guess you dont really need one..
7. You need to pretty much build up the whole engine to be completely safe with nos. Id just do a complete rebuild with stronger pistons, rods, and everything. I dont know much about the internals of an engine, so I cant help you much with that.
I hope I helped.... and I hope you can read this all, cause it did kinda take me a while to type.

if you want to go fast in a straight line ?
i would do my home work a get a h23a dohc vtec 225 hp
7500 rpm's i think the tqr is 163 and the swap gose
the same as the h22a in the eg's trq is hard to get out of a b-series motor
i knoe someone that has one in an eg and it is quick
like i said do you home work and do an h-series
but it is up to you
good look

You're not going to get many good responses to your questions because they are too broad and typical. Everything you ask has been discussed over and over again. Use the search function or put on your flame suit...

h series vs. b series.

The thing you first have to realize is:

There is no spoon.
