Default Making harness standalone

Hey guys. Im new to the import world and im starting a project and i will need some wiring help.

i have a 92 classic mini cooper. I plan on swapping in a late 90s stock vtec d series automatic. I will be using my own gauges with gps speedo.
my questions are..
-Can a stock automatic engine harness/ecm be made standalone?
-Would i be better off getting a whole car harness and start elimanating what i wont need, abs, air bags ect
-Would it be difficult?
-Is anybody in pittsburgh that would want to take on a project? Lol

Thanks guys
Mike
