Default LS-VTEC VS B16A

i went up against a ls-vtec in a 93 hatch with my b16 94 hatch. took em off the line, had him in second, then in third he caught up to me. fourth he was ahead of me. It sounded like he was reving higher than the b16 i'm assumeing cause of gsr ecm??? i just don't know how he could catch me in third and then pass me in fourth??? any ideas?? Never mind!!! It's actually due to gear ratio and torque. 3rd in his car is the torgue gear and it compares how fast my engine can rev to his displacement and torque. So it is logical that he would be able to pull on me in 3 and 4 gear. All i have to do now is figure out my feet behind him and the velocity and what not.... it's a good race though...

Do you know what tranny he was using? What tranny were you using?
What were the mods for each car?

i have B16, JUN ultralight fly wheel, ITR piston, balanced, bluprinted, ferrea valves, 5 way valve job, ported, polished, titainium retainers/ valve springs, stock cams, ITR tranny, ITR plenum, AEM intake, JG exhaust, ramdom technology cat, tannabe g power exhaust, Magnacore 10mm wires, MSD blaster 2 coil, ACT organic disc with Xtreme pressure plate, and the car is completely gutted.
He has same car with B18A block, B16A head, think gsr tranny, intake, header, exhaust... the usual ****... for the most part though i think it is stock... i'll have to find out more details

All else the same, he pulled on you because car motor makes more power. I doubt that his LS/VTEC is revving higher than your balanced motor, but he doesn' t need 9k rpm to make the crank HP of your B16. The longer gears of the GSR tranny might appear to your ears as "revving higher" but the revs are just more spread out.

At the last Import Moroso event, there was a white coupe (Louis's old car) running 12.80. LS/VTEC w/ stock ITR head, USDM ITR pistons, in a coupe. Displacement = more bang for the buck.

again we meet.... well i called the ls-vtec and talked to him he is running to 9200 rpm, and he is running a stock b16a3 head. The tranny is custom built using ls/gsr gears so i guess we know that answer to all of this now. We both are going to dyno our cars and see what the torque vs hp is for us.

Wow you sound just like someone I know. Stock B16a3 (del sol) heads do not rev to 9300 rpm more than a few times... nor do LS rods & stock rod bolts... Why don't you give me his number, i'll ask him for you... maybe you mis-understood...

That engine setup cannot run to 9K, much less 9200, especially with the stock LS rods..... the Stock LS rods are not made to withstand that type of engine speed... unless he intends to break his rods.

the frankenstein aka ls-vtec, is a better engine then the b16a. i have a b16a in my 4th gen civic hatch, but i plan do build up a ls block and do the conversion. with the vtec head on the ls block its a deadly combo. you got the low end torque along with the high end revs. its pretty straight forward, of course having more displacement, and more torque would equal better a better engine.
