Default LS/VTEC oil leaking.

A friend of mine, just had a ls vtec motor built (b18b w/ b16 head.) He said he had been driving around for about a week or so. I took a look under the hood and the block had oil on it ( a good bit). It looked like it was leaking from the headgasket. I was thinking it was either a bad headgasket, or the head was not properly tourqued down.

He took it to the shop to have them look at it, and the shop told him the leaking oil was normal, and not to worry about it....

Is that right? any suggestions?

properly not tourqued down right, or too much oil pressure when vtec engages. or simply bad head gasket. Remember, it will never be a gsr. Your using vtec ecu to do things to an ls block and vtec head, that ecu can't perform the way it's supose to with ls modules. Get it tuned right, send it to hondata they can do it.

Speaking of ECU, he is using his stock p75.

He has an automatic LS. From what I understand they wired up a shift light pill or something to engage the vtec seleniod. I don't know exactly, but thats what I understood.

oil leaking could be cause from the 1/8 oil plug on the head not done properly.
also what distrubutor are you using. if you used a ls distr. then you had to cut off 2 legs of that distubutor to make it fit, therefore using only 1 distr. bolt to hold the distr. in place, causing it not to be tight. oil could be leaking from the distubutor oil seal and dripping down onto the block.
the head gasket may be bad and not torgue down properly, but if your friend can turn and torque bolts then i don't think that he would've had a problem doing that.
if you do decide to pull the head back off, put a thin layer of hondabond around the oil passage holes. on both sides of the new head gasket.

ecu, i would get a chipped p28 and a hondata. get your car tuned. that's the only way to get the full potential of your friends motor.

The cams seals could also be the cause of oily block

Its leaking too low to be the cam seal... That is what I thought at first.

Like I said, its not MY car... I was just taking a look at my friend's motor, and told him that shouldn't be there. Then he called the shop (a local chicago shop in the NW burbs), and they said it was normal for it to be leaking.

Now, I KNEW it wasn't supposed to leak, I was just wondering WHY you guys thought it was leaking.
