Default Ls/vtec and h2b quesion

Now i know theres already a thread for h2b's but i cant find an ls/vtec one so heres my question. In anyones opinion, what's easier. Ls/vtec or h2b. the thing is i already have a b16a3. So really all i would need are the blocks and of course the h2b kit if i went that way. But I'm just trying to find a good set up that's not gonna be so hard for me to do. I see a lot of altinator issues with the h2b as far as relocation but i hear that ls/vtecs arent reliable. I just can't make up my mind. I know an h2b will blow an ls/vtec out of the water and I'm not worried about that. I just want to know which one is easier.

Thats what i was thinkin. Thanks dude for the input. I don't think I'm gonna do either now that i think about it. I might just build my b16. Not many people do it so what the hell. But I'm still keeping my options open. Still need input though!

ls/vtec will be easier since you only need the block and gsr timing belt and head studs....you have everything else....h2b will be faster, but cost a lot more money as well and a lot more complex of a swap.

Word. I've heard h2b's are well worth it though. But i dont want to be paying shops for labor. So I'm pretty sure I can do the ls vtec with a friend of mine. Now will I be able to rev to 8k on the stock ls block. Or will mods need to be done. Just curious. Cause i see guys talkin about their builds but nothing about where they can rev to.

yeah ls bottom end wont hold to 8000 maybe with rod bolts, but even at that, you wot make power thathigh on stock cams/comp. so it will be pointless

Well now that you say that, I was planning on itr pistons and cams. What do you suggest for the bottem end for 8-82k?

dont rev it higher then needed....i dont know where you would make power to, get it dyno tuned and shift where the power falls off...makes sure a minimal of new rod/main bearings and rod blts if you plan revving that high.

Alright sweet. Thanks dude. That was pretty helpful. I actually want to make power to about 8k. I was researching and itr cams aren't gonna cut it. I might go with moderately agressive cams. But once I start I'm gonna make a post on it so check it out.

Hey h2b_eg8. Would eagle rods with ARP bolts and je pistons require me to use an aftermarket crankshaft? Will I also have to resleeve the block for about 8500 rpm? Just want to be safe here.

you can use stock crank with aftermarket rods, and you dont have to sleeve..

What are some numbers to expect with a stock ls block with a b16 head with skunk2 stage 2 cams and valve springs and retainers? Just throwing that out there.

I priced everything out for my H2B swap already. Just waiting for my winter car to sell. I'm at about 3600 with a brand new motor, new gsr tranny, new fidanza flywheel, new clutchmaster stage 1 clutch, new avid mounts, and also factored in the prices to machine down the one pulley and buy a sohc alternator with the bracket. Basically EVERYTHING i needed without cutting corners and bolting up a nice drivetrain. The rest is just getting the crew together having a barbecue and swapping the beast in there.
