LS/Vtec Cooling issue...
K, I was out to the track this weekend and made some good runs around 13.6 - 13.8 and after I packed up the car and left I noticed that on the road I was smeeling coolant and oil. I stop the car and checked everything out under hood only to find that my car is weeping oil around the head where it mates to the block. the coolant overflow bottle level was not high nor low so I checked the oil and everyting seemed fine. I continued on the highway and noticed that I was getting intermitent smells of coolant and my temp gauges were fluctuating with the throttle. Where i was ascending hills (under load) the temp gauge would slowly rise (never overheating) and when I was descending hills it would drop right down to cold. I was like WTF!!! I figured that it might be the head gasket but what I cant understand is that If the HG was gone would'nt the car overpressurize the cooling system causing it to boil over? and would'nt it burn coolant? because its not blowing any white smoke. Ever since I built the car it has been running really cold (like 110-120 degrees celcius) and Im having a hard time getting all the air bubbles out of the cooling system. I take the rad cap off and start the car and let it heat up and there is a constant flow of air bubbles (it was like this even long before my recent problems) so I cant figure it all out. Can someone please tell me what I need to replace? Im in a jam with this.
I have a B18b block with a B16A head and a stock b18b HG
its a turbo setup
I have replaced the stock honda rad with a VW Scirrocco radiator (due to fitment issues with the stock one.

the start of a blown head gasket, when the head gasket start to go, sometimes it will leak oil before it goes all the way, also check the the heater hoses on the back side of the head, they may also be leaking, and you might have air pockets in the coolant lines, crack the radiator cap to the first notch after the car is hot, it will relieve some of the air in the system.
it sounds like u have a thermostat problem due to cold temp readings also the temp gauge reading up & down when on accelation & deccelation . as far as coolant burning it might be a hose leaking or something. as far as oil goes it might be a seal
hope it something simple good luck
