Jspec Auto or HMO?
Sup guys,
Im going to get a H2b swap soon, Did some research & trying to decide wich company I should buy my H22a from, Jspec Auto or Hmotorsonline?
Jspec Auto:
PROS- Cheap ($1,200), instant & professional response when I contact them, 60 day warrenty, 20-60k mileage range, multiple H22 package deals, they answered all my questions from email.
CONS- Mixed reviews (even amount of good N bad), their shop is on the east coast & im on the west, if you have to use the warrenty they don't pay shipping (Me paying for shipping twice).
HMO:
PROS- Heard Nothing but good reviews, averaged 35k mileage, well known company.
CONS- price "compared to Jspec" ($1,899), website is kind of sketchy "IMO", it's been a couple of days still haven't emailed me back, Not much package deals to choose from (pretty much 1 logical choice)
Tell me what you guys think, share ur experiences, thoughts & oponions on what u think I should do. Thanks

I haven't bought from either one but after all the reviews I've read over time I'd go with HMO. Yea, they're pricey, but I've also heard their customer service is 2nd to NONE. You get what you pay for. Wherever you decide to make your purchase, I suggest that when you do, whatever car the swap is going is READY for it. Last thing you wanna do is void your warranty and get stuck with a bad motor. (Not that I've heard of either depots sending out bad products)
Yea, I agree w/ you there. It's only more expensive because it comes w/ a exhaust, ecu, and tranny. The qsd kit for a h2b swap comes with a tranny so I don't need that, was planning to buy a aftermarket 3" exhaust anyway but I prob do need that chip. Eh... Idk I prob just pay the extra money & suck it up. Thanks 4 feedback

I have delt with HMO and they are great with their customer service!!! You need to call them rather than email. If they don't pick up right away leave a message and they usually call back in less than 15 minutes. I have not bought a motor from them but I have bought several interior pieces and performance items. Their prices including shipping were usually less than I could find anywhere else (marketplace, forums, eBay,CL, ect.) 70% of the time and much better condition!
For a motor sight unseen, this is only place I would trust. They guarantee all sensors are in working order which makes it that much easier diagnosing and problem solving something else in your swap!

All 3 experiences I have had with hmo have been great. All 3 motors fired right up with no issues whatsoever. Theres a reason they keep getting my business...hmo ftw

I've bought numerous motors from steve since he opened his facility.
Since living 20 min away I was able to pick through the motors to choose clean ones, practically brand new looking!
One mentioned above about his trust buying sight unseen being higher for HMO,
Trust me picking through the motors is not really needed, as all of his motors are of low mileage and quality, and all of them are pretty clean. Seems he gets first pick choice of Japans used engine stock.
Dont take chances of ordering some motor from Canada, or trying to save a buck cause you might end up with a salty @$$ motor that arives on the shipping truck with a seagull perched on top of it.

HMO FTW. I got my B18c from them a few years back and it was prime. Bought a b16a from JSPEC and had issues from the time the order was placed. Wrong axels, ecu, Ect... needed a obd1 Motor got a obd2. Next one is going to be from HMO.
I bought alot of stuff from hmotors....not so good of luck, maybe it is just me..
bought a b16a sir2 swap with lsd...great purchase swap appeared to have maybe 25k miles...perfection
bought a h22a non lsd swap with a ton of other stuff like jdm body parts and what not....ehhh not so good guys. engine appeared to have over 80k miles on it, broken fitting on IM, steve did send me another one. Body parts in rough shape (dents all over, missing emblems) transmission rough condition I am guessing it was because the clutch disc was in a million pieces in the bottom of the bellhousing, which leads me to believe someone drove it for some period short or long with having no clutch, 3rd and 4th have had issues since day one but I have since taken it apart and replaced synchros and gear sets.
Overall i am unhappy with the h22 being the condition it was in when i received it. I spent over 6,000 dollars with HMO and nothing could be done to fix any of it aside from, "im sorry but nothing seems to make you happy"
b16a and h22 still run to this day none the less

Just to add. i bought a h22a W/ lsd off of ebay and it is mint and i have no troubles from it whatsoever..Ebay sellers show actual pics and you get what you see. They are also concerned about their feedback and rep so they are highly unlikely to sell you junk
How can you POSSIBLY just be able to look at an engine and tell how many miles are on it?
Not really. If you actually believe that, then I have a bridge to sell you.

I've heard of a couple odd ball stories like that concerning hmo.
Low mileage gsr swap that needed rings, valve stems/guides replaced.
And a swap that came with a bad ecu that took several attempts for steve to finally replace.
Those were years ago however.

hmm, strange cause i see all the jdm engine sellers have 98%+ positive feedback and they seem to sell relaly nice swaps AS PICTURED.
i received a h22a lsd swap for a decent price and it was actual pics, i pay attention to detail. Just keep in mind places do make misteaks and hmotorsonline got over on me pretty good and all i got was a I'm sorry. This thread was about hmo vs jspec. Therefore i recommend going with someone you trust and see actual pics of what you are getting.
I refuse to buy a engine swap that has been pressure washed and cleaned to hell and back before pics are posted of it. What to look for is a swap that is Slightly dirty and you can obviously tell it looks exactly the way it did when it was removed from the car it came out of. Very easy to tell which ones have been super cleaned up and others that are sent out just the way they were when removed from the donor car. Just my .02
Mmk these comments are interesting, well i haven't made any haste decisions yet, so if any more people have more stories and experiences whit either company it would be greatly appreciated thanks.
HMO for sure I just got a h23a blue top and it was the cleanest motor I have ever gotten for sure . You pay for quality my friend . Cause its sucks when you buy a motor swap it and it runs like crap
