JDM or USDM engine
Ok I am in the process of buying a 94-95 Gsr engine for my '92 Civic Si--What I want to know----is there any difference between the jdm and usdm version of the motor other than the wiring harness and that extra horsepower etc ----what do you all think would be a better and a easier install to do----
The usdm will be the easier of the swaps to do. I am in the process of doing jdm b16a hydro swap and I tell you from experience that I would go with the usdm motor if I was to do this again

stock for stock...the j-spec is better, but if youre concerned about being able to say, "shyah dude, my engine is from japan man". so, who cares...build a usdm. a car is only as fast as you make it ergo, anycar can be fast meaning any engine.
They will both wire up the same, the JDM version will have slightly more hp due to the higher c/r. Just get whichever one is easiest and cheapest to get.
yeah the US B18C and JDM B18C are 94% the same ....
only differences are the pistons, cam profile (JDM cams are a bit better but not much), and stock ECU program - actually the JDM B18C P72 ECU has a shitty program, you're better off with a US P72 ECU. Oh yah, the block stamp reads:
(JDM) B18C
(US) B18C1
..but if you're one of the **** type that is a total worry bug when it comes time to smog your civic, make sure you get a US B18C1 that is the same year or newer and get it ref'd.
You can run a US engine harness on a JDM B18C... no problem.

I am leaning towards USDM for my swap just because I will not have to go through the pain of tracking down a USDM ECU. I will have the "good" ECU and can put some JDM ITR or CTR cams and pistons and run higher compression than a JDM motor.

i would go with a USDM engine for the simple fact that you would be able to smog easier the with a JDM engine...
i am going through this dilemma!!
how can I smog my JDM b16?!?!?
this sucks elephant *********

I'd go with the JDM setup.
Cheaper to get
Easier to get
more potential.
i also don't live in California so Idon't have to worry about smog and such.
so i guess i have it easier than you

If you live in Cali, it should be easier to get a JDM engine since Japan is right across the water. I live in VA, so the engine has to travel across the Pacific, then across the nation. I gots my USDM B18C1 00' motor with 9K miles from North Carolina, shipping was cheap.
I'm in VA also. There are actually importers here in VA that import JDM motors.
I think some warehouse in Northern VA somewhere has lots of JDM motors for sale. I'm talking Nissan motors, 3 rotor mazda motors, skyline motors, and ofcourse the Honda motors.
My friend has the guy card. Hybridin' is getting very big in VA.
