there should be a service connector with 2 pins, you jump them with a paper clip then you turn the key to ON. On the ecu there should be a little window which has a light that will flash and give you the codes

What year is the ecu from ? If its obd0, the ecu will just flash, anything beside that you need to jump the connector to read the codes.

u dont ground the ecu.

if its obd1, then u put a wire or paperclip or something in the service connector to connect both sides. then turn the car to the accessory position and then read how many times the check engine light flashes...

if its obd0,
