Insurance for hybrids?
Scary hypothetical question...
you spend 1500 on a JDM engine, slap it into your car. Car gets stolen the next day, along with your new engine. How do you go about claiming you had a different engine in your car?

This is always a tough one. A lot of insurance companies won't cover larger motor swaps. A few people on here have tried getting their insurance to cover them for their hybrids and ended up getting kicked off of the plan.
I took pictures and kept all my receipts but I'm not telling my insurance unless something happens.

but if you're only paying a premium that represents the value of the stock car, isnt that the limit that they would pay you? lets say you bought a stock car for $3000. the insurance company sets your premium based on the value of the car. so even though you've pumped say $5000 more into it, they will only cover $3000. is my thinking correct?
my ins co (farmer's) covers anthing ...almost anything that can not be removed from the vehicle ...and is attached via welds/bolt on ...i had a 2002 tacoma 2wd with 18's on it and they covered them, about 2800.00 bux
some insurance companies say that they have to be notified of such modification,
and some wont even cover it , even if you have pics and receipts.
not just the motor but also suspension wize

I just got new Insurance and I was able to put up to 4k of extra coverage for my mods. It only costed me an extra $140 a year. I have way more than 4k extra in my car but at least I will get something more if the thieves outrun me and my 45.

The insurance term is "Agreed Value", you and the agent agree on how much "extra" coverage you want to pay for, then if something happens, the insurance company will pay you the "agreed value" for the car. Of course YOU will pay the higher premium.
BTW, the croanies that work for the agent had no clue
I had to talk to the agent directly.
