How do you "drop in" an engine?
On Hondas, I don't have a problem dropping from the top. As for others, I helped a buddy replacing his K24 (Nissan 240sx) and it's a PITA because you have to be careful not to bust the hardlines located at the firewall.
Well depends on the install usually its from the top but when its easier from the bottom and i have the lift free i do it from the bottom. Removing an engine or installing one, i have done it all ways and it all depends on what i am working with.
To the guy above asking how to do it from the bottom with out a hoist.......
its a little harder to do but you have to do what you have to do. Any ways to remove the engine, i took the wheels off and lowered the car as far as i could with a dolly under the motor then i disconnected everything and then lifted the car as high as i could with the car jack, propping it up with blocks and such to get it up high enough to clear the engine. Then did the reverse to put the knew motor in. That was a brief explanation for you if that helped any.

I've always dropped them in from the top.
I'm thinking about switching it up one of these times just to see what it's like.
I used the same tactic to con my ladyfriend into buttsecks, lol

out the bottom is definitely the junkyard way. when i pulled my LS out of the donor car we dropped it out the bottom, but putting the motor into my civic I will probably put it in from the top, i didn't really like doing it out the bottom.
Threw the TOP is the worst way known to man....in or out its such an uneccasary pain in the ***.....OUT from the BOTTOM in threw the BOTTOM...2 FLOOR JACKS 1 on each side and a nice Dolly does the trick....cleanest simplest way !
slide the motor under the car, lower the car. use engine hoist to pull the motor up from under. thats what i usually do. never broke any sensors doing it this way.
dropping the motor from above is a pain in the ***. and you usuaully end up scratching up the engine bay.

No Need for Ramps @ all.....2 Floor jacks 1 on each side directly underneath the mirrors slide motor out + in on a Dolly so when you lower the car the motors already up high enough and you lower the car to the designated height.....ive done a swap in all EF/DC/EK/EG THE BOTTOM IS THE BEST/EASIEST ! Whether its a B-Series / K-Series dont matter...actually the K is even easier !
good thing i have old school cherry pick its ment to pull diesel engines, and have two friends to guide the motor perfectly in as i lowering it....from the to of course..
Ive personally done maybe 5 or 6 motor swaps, Ive always dropped it from the bottom and in wither the backyard or the driveway. I have done it from the top with a engine lift but to me its easier from the bottom. Everyone has there own opinion.
