Default high compression ls/vtec question

I recently built a high compression 12:5:1 compression ls/vtec. I was told by someone that I will have to detune the timing if I am going to run 93 octane gas, or use as a daily driver, and would loose a good bit of power. Is there anyone that has done a high compression motor like this that has had any problems? Or is there someone that built one and had a succesful daily driver from the build? All in all I am just asking what problems should I expect from a build like this for a daily driver?

by detune you mean retard the timing.. and yes you will lose power by doing that... just run race gas and be done with it..

i am runnin the same setup and made decent power on the dyno...the only thing holdin me back is the fact i am still runnin stock b16 cams and came gears and the bottom end just has ARP rod bolts and CTR pistons and punched .25mm over to accommidate the pistions.....also mine IS a daily driver and moves pretty good on the street...and yes you will have to retard the timing to prevent detonation

Heres my setup:
B18A1 Block
CTR(Civic Type R) pistons
Milled B16 Head (42 cc combustion chamber)
Blox Intake manifold
Skunk2 68mm Throttle Body
Hondata Heatshield Intake Gasket
Cold Air Intake
DC Sports JDM 4-1 Ceramic Header with 2.5 inch collector
2.5 inch Magnaflow Hi flow cat
GReddy EVOII cat back exhaust
P28 ECU with HONDATA S200
Hurst short throw shifter with Skunk2 weighted shift ****
95 Integra LS tranny with Competition Clutch Stage 2 Street Clutch
95 Integra GSR tranny(waiting for $$$ for a LSD)

thanks for the info. I am still trying to get mine running right now and am running into problem after problem. I just got a new set of spark plugs because the other ones were hitting my pistons and now i can't get any fire from the new ones. I am getting the MSD ignition and distributor cap soon. Other than that this is my set up and if anyone can point me in the right direction to get it tuned when I get to Ft Belvoir I would greatly appreciate the help.

My Set up:
b18b block 81.5mm
weisco 12:5:1 pistons
SRP forged rods
SRP forged, knife edged 95mm crank
Moroso oil pan
b16 head ported polished
JUN Dual valve springs
SiR II cams
ported intake manifold
70mm throttle body
4 to 1 jdm header 2.5" collector
Megan exhaust
Skunk 2 test pipe
J's Racing Carbon intake
310cc Rc injectors
Mishumoto radiator
Mtuber reprogramed ecu

you should not have to retard timing. Its all about spending the money and actually getting it tuned.

Exactly. Get that thing tuned. With that kind of compression its gonna be near impossible getting it running right. If you get it tuned you can keep a descent amount of timing and still run it on pump gas.

Also, whats up with the stock b16 cams? Those cams will do nothing but hold back power with that kind of compression and displacement.

Inline Pro does a good job....if you make any power though expect your car to get stolen. You could also check into Brauning Motorsports in Maryland. Those are the two I know of in the area.

you should go with skunk2pro2 that compression is really high, get a big cam. Or get some BC spec 4s.

hey thanks for the help do you have the numbers for either one of the places so I can get in touch with them when I get there? I have thought of the BC 4's but don't know if I would want to run the skunk2 pro2's.
