Default Help! crx swap.

yeah i was wondering if a 1999 civic dx engine would go into my 1988 crx si? they are both d series so im thinking the mounts are the same, but the wiring is probably going to be the problem i think, does anyone have any advice? or at least a good web site to research this on? thanks.

Yes it will fit and is a cheap upgrade to a lower mileage motor. You need to change the driver's side mount and mount bracket on the 99 with the one from your CRX. After that it will drop in just like you're replacing the same motor. You can bolt your DPFI intake manifold onto the block, as well as the exhaust manifold and there will be no wiring headaches.
The only wiring change will be the coolant temp. sensor. On the CRX motor it is on the back of the block near your oil filter but on the 99 motor it is on the thermostat housing. All you need to do is cut off the plug, extend the wires to the length you need and then use a normal 2 prong plug.
For the best performance, I would recommend converting the car to MPFI and use 88-91 CRX/Civic Si components - distributor, ECU, intake manifold with injectors. I have an 89 Civic DX and swapped a 2000 LX (D16Y7) into it. I converted to MPFI and used all Si parts except the manifold, which I used one from a 95 EX.

What's even better is that you have more room for a bigger turbo and an air-liquid I/C. D-series do have their benefits.
