Default Help after Swap: No VTEC ---> CEL Code 21

Okay so here it goes... I finished my LSVTEC swap last night around 2am: :sleep

<FONT COLOR="Blue">-obd2a 99 teggy
-obd1 b16a3 head
-ECU HACKER.COM LsVtec Chipped ECU w/ conversion harness(2a - 1)</FONT>

I started it up and it ran awesome!! Except when I drove it, NO VTEC!! it was overheating and not blowing any hot air from the vents, we swapped the coolant temp sensor on the head with the LS one, added alot of antifreeze(was bone dry) and I figured that would make vtec engage seeing as pretty sure vtec needed somewhere around 128 degrees to activate so I drove it, still no vtec and CEL still on, so this morning I got in it to drive it and I noticed the speedo wasnt working, I checked the VSS and BAM!!!! Plugged it in but...DAMN! Still no vtec...I decided @ this point to jump the ecu for codes and I got code 21 which I'm pretty sure is VTEC Solenoid, Right? But I'm not sure seeing that my ECU is OBDI. Is 21, VTEC Solenoid, is a OBDII code or is it the same for both I and II??

I would appreciate help from both those that have done LSVTEC's and those who havent and might still know thier **** 'bout em'

**I also had to use my stock LS TB for somereason and had to rig up 1 of the vacuum sensors that come from the IM for some reason, does anyone know from first hand experience about this particular custom sensor on 99 Teg LSVTEC's???

Thanks is Advance --- <FONT COLOR="DarkRed">Mark {Connecticut</FONT>}

21 is the solenoid for obd1 and 2. check the wiring, it should go to A4.

Okay but I bought a OBD2a - OBDII ECU Conversion Harness from ebay so how do I check? Also, I bought a chipped OBDI ecu from ECUHACKERS.COM and they upgraded my wiring to a one wire vtec upgrade, which is disableing the VTP sensor for VTEC so that it makes ease of wiring {ECU has 1 black wire coming directly out of the ECU casing}. If I remember correctly he told me just to run the green/yellow vtec solenoid wire to that black wire and that was it. Anyone have experience with ECUHACKERS.COM and maybe Im doing it wrong because I just took a VTEC solenoid off of a D16 and tried it and the same code came up, 21????? UGHHHH.

you have the gray plug and the green plug on your VTEC Solenoid right? Make sure its grounded somewhere on the head and if you have to, run your own wire to the ECU just to see if the wiring is wrong somewhere.

se only 1 wire/plug to be used no green plug(vtec pressure)

have you gone over all the wiring to make sure its right first? solenoid is the one wire plug, goes to A4. Pressure switch is 2 wire plug. positive goes to D6, negative to A26. If P28 ecu, pressure switch may be grounded to the head, as the ecu does not look for it. All pinouts are for the OBD1 side of the harness.

if the solenoid is good, it's getting power, and wired right, then i would say its the chip too. i've had a bad burn like that before where everything but vtec worked.

just outta curiosity does the solenoid have to be grounded, I didnt think it did but who knows.

I sent my ecu back to the guy who chipped it he said it could be th ecu, so he sent me a new one overnight, should be here tomarrow. Yesss!

But listen to this ****....

***But one more thing, I dont know if anyone is familiar with the little dowel pin and o ring in the dead center of the head underneath the cam caps and cam assembly but I am missing it and my friend told me that is what builds the pressure in the rocker arms to activate oil pressure for vtec, will this still effect my vtec even though my vtp sensor is disabled??***

the solenoid is one wire only, no ground (A4). the oil pressure switch has a ground, but on P28 it can be grounded to the head. On most other OBD1 ecu's, it looks for the ground at A26. The positive lead to the pressure switch goes to D6.
