Default Head Question!

I have a GSR block(B18C1) with a B16 head...OEM GSR head gasket...P30

I need some advice and information...last week I put my engine together with a brand new OEM Head gasket. This week I started it up for the 1st time. It started without hassle. Then my dad reved it up while I wasn't in the garage. The head gasket blew and coolant was pissing everywhere.

So, I got over it and my dad paid for a new gasket and an oil change....So we had it all back together again today. Turned the key over and it started up nicely...Turned it off, tried turning it back on...and it turned over then it made a bop sound and the car jolted...tried two more times same thing...Took all the plugs and wires off and turned the engine over and it pumped out coolant/water.

I pumped out all the water until it started spraying gas. Then I put back in plugs and wires and turned it over only to get the same damn thing!
I had the head and the block checked to be flat before installing the head.
I just go the head back from the shop and they checked to make sure it was flat so I don't know what to think...

Do you think my head is cracked???

My intake gasket was ripped...the rip was towards Cyinder 4 and it was wet when I look at the gasket....

Would that allow coolant to flood in the cylinder?

Thanks for any advice...

If the mani is bolted on tight enough, it shouldn't leak.

Try flushing the system, it may have too much fluid in there? hth

Hmmm...do you mean like if I have the coolant to full that would cause a coolant leak from the head gasket even if it's torqued down properly?

Right now I will take any and all advice...I will change as many realistic varibles as possible to get this thing running.

I am going to put it back together once more today and if I get the same thing I am going to take it back to the machine shop on Monday.

I appreciate your help

I still don't see how the motor would blow a head gasket out of nowhere on stock internals and they head bolts were all tightened.

Have you checked all your coolant hoses and lines to make sure there arent any cuts or cracks in them?

Same thing happened to my friends eg, it did the same boop noise and all that other nasty ****, i found out that the belt tensioner on the motor was fualty and caused the cams to slip, we put it on TDC then cranked it once then the car was off by 2 teeth's from tdc agian. check that it can be it, hopefully its not because this is how you can join the "I BLEW MY MOTOR CLUB"

Ya the coolant lines all are in fairly new condition and they are all tightened with clamps...The hoses would leak if they were cracked but how would that effect the head gasket?

Okay, good to know thanks for that I am sure I had the tensioner and belt tightened and the timing was set...But maybe I need to replace the tensioner.

I didn't check the timing before I took the head off. I have checked the valves and they aren't bent and show no sign of hitting the pistons...

I will be sure to make sure I keep an eye on the timing and the tensioner.

Thanks once again!

Maybe im missing something, but I still dont see how revving the engine would cause the head gasket to blow??

First off the car wouldnt start if the timing wasnt right.

I know. Trust me I am not exactly a newbie when it comes to working on engines. But in this situation my engine OWNS me. The only thing I can realistically think it is right now is the head is cracked...and that would suck b/c I need my car for work.

I am very confused...so I think I am just going to take it to the machine shop tomorrow and let them deal with it.

Thanks for your help guys. If you have more advice keep giving it but for now I am going to see what the machine shop says...When I find out what's wrong I'll post back.
