harness talk
Yea so im sure no ones gonna read this with a title like that.. who likes talking about wiring lol... anyway.. on the off chance im wrong..
so b16a2 into a civic ex.. ok straight up.. my harness looks like ****..
its from my ex harness and was fixed up to include the vtec, knock etc...
but the thing is shredded to **** (i didnt do it lol). occasionally i find a wire exposed.. motor is jdm so im assuming the reason why wires connect to different color wires is due to the need for extending them. (right hand to left hand right? lol ) anyway.. hows about i just get a new harness... so my question is which one should i get?
jdm b16a 2nd gen... harness = usdm obd2 ? obd1? same thing? .. thanks.. i feel like such a ... [looks at profile picture]

Some helpful info would include:
-the year of your civic,
-exactly what motor(you said b16a2 and jdm 2gen b16a, which are two different motors),
-what ecu you are running.

Well man, unfortunatley there is no harness you can just buy that will plug right in without some modification.
Your only choice is to buy another obd2A harness and adapt it to the obd1 motor. And unless the motor is from an EX, you'll need to add wires for vtec and knock sensor.
My only advice is take your time and make it look clean, or pay someone that wont do a hack job on it.

Re: harness talk (Slopoke)
arite..... well i have an obd2 - obd1 conversion harness already.. so that takes care of problem #1, but if i bought a obd2 si harness wouldnt it be pretty much plug and play into the conversion harness?? all the sensors should be the same.. i would think.. and the motor is a b16a not from an ex.

Nope man, that wont work.
Your '97 civic is obd2A and the '99-'00 SI is obd2B.
And although alot of the sensors are the same on the engine, none of the pins are in the same location down at the ecu.
Right now you have a obd2A to obd1 conversion harness. Even if you bought an obd2B to obd1 conversion harness, it still would not work because the connector coming from your main harness(that plugs into the ecu) has all the pins in the wrong location.
Your only choice is to use a obd2A harness and adapt it to the obd1 motor.
If its an EX harness, you only have to change some of the plugs to obd1 plugs. If its not an EX harness, you need to change the plugs and wire in vtec and knock sensor.

Re: harness talk (w0ng_sta)
What ecu you use, doesnt make a difference.
You still have to use an obd2A harness in your obd2A car.
Then just get the obd2A-obd1 jumper harness, so you can use that p30.
