h22 hatch handling

Re: h22 handling (H22A_HB)
Still... when you plop a larger motor in, you funk things up a bit...
What's your weight dist? You could get the stiffest springs/shocks available but it still wont feel like an evenly balanced car.
Then again, is the h22 really that much heavier than the methinks b16 that was originally in there?
::shrugs::

Re: h22 handling (H22A_HB)
I'm pretty sure someone makes a set of springs for the h22 swapped hatch. However i can't remeber the companys name. You would probably have better results in the hybrid or civic forums.
Asking a bunch of prelude drivers for advice on your civic's handling, probably won't provide you with the best advice.
Good Luck

Re: h22 handling (H22A_HB)
Number 1, tires.
Prelude spring rates up front, this is crucial. H22's weigh ~150lbs more than a B16 (and around 90# more than B18C) which I suppose should be similar in weight to a D16.
I guess a rear sway bar and FSTB should help with understeer too.

im using illuminas wioth drop zone coilovers, no other suspension mods yet, and run 215/40/17 tires, i can say that handling is much better than stock. i only have about 1 inch of drop though, since too low has always been for looks on the street.

h22 is 35lbs heavier than a b18, and maybe 45 heavier than b16, guy on the civic forum i believe weighed everything while the blocks/trannys were out of his car

Yeah, there were so many things missing from that comparison it was ridiculous.

maybe you should run a staggard tire set up....like 225's in the front and 205's in the rear....get some of the oversteer characteristics back.
and play with sway bar sizes.

Mine come from a source who weighed the entire drivetrains out of the car as well, wet I assume.
The list goes as follows...
b16a 310#
b18c 370#
h22a 470#
Physically larger engine, longer deck height, heavy *** dual runner intake manifold, heavier clutch/flywheel, huge *** crank, closed deck (4th gen), 0.8qt more motor oil heh
No way in HELL that the 2.2 drivetrain weighs ~35-50lbs more than a B16 (half tank of gas). I'd bet he neglected to reinstall the battery, powersteering system, radiator, a few mounts here and there, as well as the all important FLUIDS.

Re: h22 handling (Quick99Si)
if you really want good hadling, get a very good set of coil overs and have your car corner weighted...this can change the bais on your car from front to rear very effectively, its more expeinsive but well worth it

Re: h22 handling (v4lu3s)
kinda stupid question but do you have power steering? A lot of people skip on the p/s to "lose weight" but it'll help and you won't look like a complete idiot in parking lots trying to maneuver.

Re: h22 handling (H22A_HB)
you should search or post this in the hybrid forum,
but integra spring rates will do the trick.
also Progress makes springs for h22 hatch
and ground control makes coilovers
but seriously search the hybrids forum its been covered 1000X
