Default "G23" Build Thread

I'm starting my F23 with an H22 head build so I figured I'd make a build thread since I've never done a build thread and there's not as many of these build threads as there is for like b series and such. But anyways I just picked up my bottom end today and am gonna start stripping it down soon for the machine shop but I'll list everything I use and what it's costing me. Anyways here's my parts/parts I intend on using:

F23A1(no head/tranny,just bottom end&block) -$120
Block honed and gear pressed on water pump- shop said $70
H22A head shaved .020, supertech flat faced valves, supertech dual valve springs, stock retainers(for now)
Type S cams
AEM cam gears
H22A distributer
Skunk2 pro series manifold
Skunk2 alpha series 68mm throttle body
STR Fuel Rail with b&m regulator
Evolution H2B kit with the custom flywheel
Either eg or ek mount kit depending in what I decide to but when I sell my da9. Also from evolution.
All of which from the head down to here I'm trading my b16 swap to my buddy for on Monday or Tuesday.
All sensors were included with block and sensors on head were included
P06 ecu I have socketed, not sure what chip and software I'm gonna choose

Parts I'm planning on getting:
K20A2 pistons -$40 (friend also)
H22 water pump gear and crank gear- $20+/- (friend again)
GSR or b16 tranny
Clutch kit(haven't decided what yet)
F22 external water pipe
F22 head gasket
Hastings rings
Aftermarket bearings haven't decided yet which brand
ARP rod bolts and head studs

Once I buy the other things I'll post the price so people get an idea of what it could cost.

I lucked out a lot bc most of the parts I need I know multiple people with so most everything I can get a little bit cheaper and know once I have the money I can get em. I just have to wait for a couple paychecks to grab the last few parts. I'll keep updating as I go and I'll have pics of the motor and tear down on Saturday when I have access to post them. I probably won't be completely finished till like March but any input would be appreciated and anything I should change just lemme know.

the F22 head gasket has smaller bore openings. the F23 gasket would likely be better.

good luck with your build!

Exactly what i was going to say.

I am presently running a OEM F23 head gasket in my engine and am happy with it.

Dont forget the modifications u have to make on the head.

Also i would run everything through the compression calculator cause of the different pistons.

Last, you skimmed the head 0.020, u should degree the cams IMO. As incase you are using the F23 gasket - You wont be able to find a thick gasket to cover the area skimmed. so you would be running the 0.026 which will get your timing marks off.

Best of luck for the build. My 2 cents.

Regards

I meant to put f23 head gasket lol but I didn't even know the bores were different between f22s and f23s so thank you for letting me know. And yeah I ran it through zealwerks calculator and everything should be okay. Another member on here suggested getting the motor Clayed so I might do so once I get everything together. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to use the type s cams still or not, I didn't know if it'd be a good fit for a motor that right now is only going to rev to probably like 7500. And I don't know if the cam will give me issues with PTV clearance, I haven't looked up the duration or lift of the type s cams yet. They're included with the head so I'm gonna take them either way. I'm gonna start looking into cams a little later down the road, right now I wanna get the block all ready and don't worry I didn't forget about plugging the holes On the head that was included with the price at machine shop I guess I forgot to write that in there with that. But thank you guys for the input and wishing me luck hopefully everything will go smooth lol I'll keep you guys updated

I built one a few years ago but sadly I was having start up issues and lost momentum on the project and had too sell it because of an out of state move

Good luck on the build!
