I dont know because when I ordered my swap from HondaMotorsOnline he was like my accountant sends the reciept out when he gets to it or something of that nature. I have yet to recieve a receipt and its been about 3 or 4 months. But I dont know who is going to know if a JDM motor is stolen or not. As far as a D series motor I dont know what to tell you. Buy my D16Y7 its not stolen because I have the car in my garage that the motor was taken from.

If its JDM then there is no worry. However otherwise, I might still be able to get numbers run or you can probably call up the local pd and find out a way to have it done. It doesn't take more than 30 min. at max. Just if it comes up hot be ready to turn in whoever sold it to you or is trying to sell it.

thnx for the reply's fellas
nah its not jdm... just straight up usdm d16y8 motor.
i think if i got the motor and then went to the pd to run the numbers and it does come up stolen...then i'll be **** out of luck... i'll be out 650$, plus i'll prolly be charged for purchasing/recieving stolen property. i wanna stay away from the heat hahahha.
aren't there some kinda official papers we can get to certify its not stolen?
maybe i'll ask the guy for teh vin first and then run it.
will carfax say if the car it came from is stolen? or from an auction or somthing like that?

If they get motors from an auction, they'll have it on record with the block number written down on a paper that they have, and they'll write you up an official invoice for it. That's basically what we do when we import our own motors.... we have all block numbers written down and signed for by customs so we know everything we have and sell is legit, and we give a company invoice along with each motor with the block numbers, tranny numbers, and ECU numbers on them (and stamp them too so they don't get swapped out and try for a return, by some scandelous people).

nice! thnx for the info... so the person who recieved the auctioned car will have a record on file of the car with i guess vin#'s and block numbers? ok good ****, i'll ask this guy for some records of the car. i bet he'll prolly not have anything cause i sense the shadiness in this guy. he just told me he gets em from auctions so i'll have to see.
thnx newman!

I recieved receipts with tracable VIN#'s for my 99 B18C1 swap, 00 D16Y7 block and my 96 B18B1 block. These were all purchased from 3 different salvage yards all of which were USDM parts. Most places that sell JDM motors will send you a receipt but JDM parts are basically impossible to trace.

Oh yeah, here's another tid-bit that I found out. If you buy a salvage title car with a stolen motor (that's been proven stolen already) in it at an auction, and it's then registered to a new owner, the stolen motor is on file but is legit to drive around in and not considered a hot motor anymore. Not the best news to hear, but it's like a way to launder a stolen motor and making it "clean" again. So it's good to run VIN checks and block numbers when you get a chance to see what kind of history they've had.

Re: engine papers? (KiddEng)
if your buying the motor off a sombody who had it in there car, just get a copy of the title and make sure the numbers on the title and block match and just keep the copy in your car so if you ever get checked you have the papers for it also make a bll of sale and have him sign it
