Which engine in an eg, B18C1 or B18C5?
im gonna be buying an eg hatch soon and im doing my planning way ahead so i can have everything done. I'm having trouble deciding which engine I want though. Anyone give me their opinion.
c1 or c5, you have to know where your going with it, later down the road, all motor, turbo, s/c, built w/the bottle??? If going n/a get the c5, better bang for your buck, factory built its a great motor. If you might go turbo, or any boost, get the c1, if you turbo it eventually your gonna have to build it, i.e. bottom end, head, and everything, so you might as well just get the c1. Theres always big controvercies over this, i'm not saying one is better than the other, just saying depending on what you want to do to it, c1-turbo, c5-n/a-factory-reliable.
He is right.
Plus, you also need to like at price and the fact that the C1 is alot cheaper. This might not matter to some, but to me it's pretty important.

If you have money to spend b18c5 all the way. If everything go smoot that an easy high or low 13s. and throw in a vortech super or turbo that a wet dream man. It's getting better. and better.
true, true. Thanks for your opinions. I've been leaning toward the c1 but i wanted to get some opinion's before i made up my mind. I do want to go turbo and i know im gonna have to work the head and bottom end and all that before i do, and i like the price a lot better than the c5.
Not to throw too much at ya, but don't forget you always have the LS/Vtec or even straight LS route to go. Although I doubt that debate will ever end.

you're kidding right.. Of course everyone will say c5 if you got the money to blow.. this is a stupid question..
edit: If you are going turbo and are gonna rebuild the bottom and head.. get the c1..

Even if you're going with an all out race motor, or just a beefy all motor setup I'd reccommend a B16 motor with a GSR block. You're going to change out the internals anyway, so why bother paying $5000 for a Type R swap.
But if you want something fast with just bolt ons(i/h/e), Type R is the way to go.

is a the c1 w/ turbo better then a ls w/ turbo? i mean like if u werent on a super budget but what would be the ideal thing to go ? cuz isnt the ls a great motor to turbo cuz of the gear ratio??

. You're probably referring to the LS tranny that has a longer gear ratio which keep the turbo spooled up longer than say a turbo motor with an ITR tranny. The LS motor has a lower compression ratio which also makes it a good candidate for a turbo.
go with the b18c type R. i can get them to run low 12s very easily in a eg hatchback. the fastest 1.8 daily driven honda in the US, runs my 99 b18c spec R motor with full top end. best time so far is 12.1 @109mph. that was done on pump gas and in a eg hatch. i have several happy customers running that motor setup with no complaints. you already get all the good parts you will later need to get for a gsr its money well spent. i carry them in stock for reasonable prices. everything legit and compression tested clean motors. anyone is welcome to contact me for qoute.
