The 84-87 Civic mounts are very different from the 88-00 D series. The only way to swap a newer 88-00 D series would be to custom make your own mounts. If you have or know someone with a welder and decent fab skills then it shouldn't be that difficult. Another problem you will run into would be that the 97 tranny is hydro. Not sure if the 84-87 tranny will fit the newer D series motors, but you could always use a 88-91 Civic/CRX cable tranny. Only downside is it's a lot of work for only marginal gains.
A good swap would be a 1.6L DOHC 88-89 Integra motor/tranny. It is a more common swap for the 84-87 models. HASport makes a B series engine mount kit for your car so that is also an option as well.

I found that HASPORT makes the best engine swap motor mounts. A little expensive, but you want your motor to fit nice and snug, right? Hope it helps.
