drum to disk brake conversion please help
I have a 92 civic with a GSR motor that i just got. This motor has a lot more power and i can't stop very well. I know that i have to do a conversion in the back but i don't know exactly what i need. The AEM conversion is like $1,300 and i don't have the money for that. I was thinking of getting GSR brakes. Is that a good idea and if it is what parts do i need exactly
not sure about the GSR stuff but you can get disks from the later SI's. you will need the rear trailing arms, brake hoses, emergency cables, and the proportioning valve from under the hood. its basicly a bolt in. I got my stuff from a 94 civic si. I put disks on the rear of my 4wd wagon, but I had to make special brackets for the calipers since the 4wd trailing arms are different. you shouldn't have any problem. I also upgraded the front to ex spindles and brakes. a noticeable difference.
The GSR stuff will work. As posted above, you need the trailing arms, calipers, rotors, soft lines, and ebrake cables. You don't have to have the prop valve, but depending on what valve is in your civic, it may help. I have GSR cables on my 91 civic, and they fit fine. I THINK they're all the same except the crx. You can also use 91 CRX discs, any of the integra rear discs from 90 - 01, and any 5th or 6th generation civic with rear discs. The CRX cables won't work though.
Also go for the EX fronts if you can. It's more noticable than the rears, but the rears are nice too!

with a gsr brake swap into an ek, would i need to buy suspension for a integ or still for the civic?
i went to fizz the other day, looking at tein coils and they said, if u get the si brakes, u get the ones for a civic, but if u get the gsr brakes, u get the ones for the tegs.
is this true?, cuz if all the ish is basically the same, it shudnt matter which set of susp there shud be.

I'm not sure since its an EK... As far as I know, it should still be the same in the rear, but I'm really not sure. If it were an EG or EF, you'd be using your stock lower control arms so you'd get the shocks that go with the car, but something could be different on an EK. I don't mess with them, but I have noticed the rear arms look slightly different. I honestly don't know for sure.
As long as your rear lower arms would work with the GSR suspension, you'd be fine using the shocks that go with you car because you aren't changing the lower control arm.

I just finished doing the exact same thing you are talking about (94 teg disks on the back). I got the setup from sohfast.com. It came with the trailing arms, e-brake cables and the brakes of course. Bolt right on the stock suspension. It's way better then spending 1300 dollars on the AEM setup.

I need to know exactly what i need. I went today to the junkyard and the guy there told me $250 per side so that's about 500 just for the back. I think that's way to expensive. I think he was trying to sell me a lot more than i needed. I just need to know every single part i need to have disk brakes in the back. I don't know much. I was reading in the new Sport compact car magazine and it has a article about a brake upgrade in the hatch but i don't know if it's the same in a 4dr. And is the suspension the same or do i have to change everything. Please help i need brakes as soon as possible

Si brakes from the 99-00 ones will work but they will be harder to find and more exspensive since they were only out for two years but will work about the same as gsr's but not quite as good. The gsr's will be your best bet unless you find a great deal on the si ones. They should be cheaper to since there are more of them and you can get older ones.
You need everything connected to the trailing arm, the soft lines (?) and the e-brake lines. HTH. BTW that guy at the yard is hosing you!
Call Larry at Import Auto Salvage. Larry was going to hook me up for that price for the standard 91 ex or si crx or early teg brakes for my 91 hatch for that same price for BOTH sides.

If i get GSR brakes in the back and wilwood brakes in the front would that work out ok. And if i get a big break conversion can i still use my 17 inch rims.
EK lower control arms are different than all the others. They are longer, and the bushing where the shock bolts on is narrower, and there is more distance from where the bolt hole is to the top of the arm. The lower part of the shock has to have longer fingers, and the fingers are closer together.
