Default Dilema

My best friends girlfriend had a motor swap done on her 96 hatch. His room mate did it and totally bothched it up. Cut a diz plug then put it back on with butt connectors, used speaker wire, it is just all fucked up. Now my friend wants me to help him get the car running right. It is a B20Vtec and I am uncetain on what harness to get. I did a search but really couldn't get a straight answer. She has a P28 with a skunk2 to obd2 to obd1 conversion harness, but we also have an ECU from a 99SI. The dizzy they are using is also from a 99SI. Would you just order a harness for a 99SI and put it in? That seems to be the simplist fix, or would you just get a 96DX harness like the car original had and use the P28 and run the vtec wires and do the IACV fix? He just wants the car running and to pass emissions. Any help is greatly appreciatted.

Your best bet would probably be to get a 96-98 civic ex harness. Since you are running a b20vtec motor, the EX wiring harness will have exsisting vtec wires already on it. As for the distributor, since its from a 99 SI it should have an OBD2 plug and should work perfectly with the OBD2 Ex harness. I dont really know what your emissions laws are in your state, but I have heard that for 96 and up cars they are plugging into the OBD diagnostic ports under the dash. I heard this is only in some states, but if they do actually do this people who are running OBD1 ECUs with a the OBD1 to OBD2 conversion harness will not pass. I know this because I tried to hook up a reader to my car which is a 97 civic with a b16a2 running a p28 and it did not read at all. So if your state does not plug into your diagnostic port you will be fine with the p28 but if they do youll have you figure out a way to run the 99 si ecu. I dont know anything about that though..... Good luck.
