Default Difference between B16a1 and B16a2?

Whats the difference between a B16a1 and a B16a2?

I think the a1 is from the earlier generation and the a2 is from the 99-00...but is the a difference in the motor at all?

Do both of them fit in a 92-95 Civic chassis?

Actually there are a lot more differnces between the motors than just the year of car they came from. And yes they can both fit a 92-95 Civic with the use of the right OEM brackets and mounts.

B16a1= 160HP
b16a2=170hp
b16a1 are older motors with 10.2 compression, they came in jdm crx's and integra xsi's. they also with cable trannys, but can be mated with and b seires tranny.
b16a2's are 92- up. they have 10.4 compression. come with hydro trannys, and have 10 more hp
if you have a 92-95 civic i would get the b16a2, its newer, has more hp and has the hydro tranny which you need.
the b16a1 will work also but might cost you more if you have to find a tranny and 92- up distributor. but i have seen people use the b16a1 in 92-up civics for cheaper but you gotta have the right parts to make it work.

You also need a mount kit to drop a first gen into a 5g chassis,
First gen b16a is non-obd and second gen is obd1..
second gen has a better flowing head and better cams.

You don't need an aftermarket mount kit to fit a first gen B16 block into the EG chassis. All you need to do is change the driver's side mount bracket to a 94+ Integra bracket and mount.

Yea,what he said!!! But yea those are the differences.there are more but they are useless like the usdm and jdm have integrated map sensors while the edm has it attached via vacuum hose,jdm motors don't have the numerical designation,edm and usdm do.See useless ****.

My list

B16a=158hp JDM CRX SIR
B16a1= 150HP I.E. Uk/Euro CRX VT
b16a2=158hp Later model civic's & Del sols
b16a4=170hp JDM civic SIR2

Are USDM cars more powerful or have u guys been given dodgy info

i would buy a motor with the same OBD as your car.

i have b16a1 not because it's cheaper cuz it had cable trans, cable vss, OBD0 ecu and correct axels

in the long run. the correct OBD motor would probably save you money and a little stress

Good luck

Something like that but the numbers for the edm are low by about 10hp the b16a2 from the 92-95 VTi is 168 and the b16a4 isn't the the jdm siRII,that is the b16a(2) as they lack the numeric designation at the end.I am pretty sure that no b16a come with 150hp except the automatics.The usdm one's are not more powerful,they are the same.As a matter of application hey are even weaker because the U.S. put them in heavier cars as opposed to the jdm and edm counterparts being available in the hatchback and older rex's.

Not quite,it is illegal to put in a motor that is older than the car.So you can put a obdII motor in a obdI car(ie;b16a2 from a 99-00 si into a 92 cx),but not a obd I motor in obdII car(ie;b16a1 from a 90-91 siRI into a 99-00 si).

That depends on where you live, not all states have that law.

I have a 96 honda civic ex with a d16y8. I want to do a motor swap and a buddy told me that a b16 is my best bet because i wont get state ref due to that the si comes with the b16. Which b16 model can i put in my car without getting state ref in Cali?
