d16y7 in a 91 hatch
a friend of mines bought a minty 91 hatch. and like a idiot, drove the car HARD with no oil. so the motor went kaboom. my friend has a d16y7 layin around in his garage and now my questions, wats need to be done to put a y7 in a 91 hatch? my biggest concern is how to "intall" the tranny, since the y7 is a hydro but its going in a cable car. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its a simple swap. Just keep the 91 hatch tranny and bolt it to the y7 engine and your about done. So basically, replace just the engine and not the tranny. The only other thing i would do is get a conversion harness and run a obd1 ecu. I've done a couple of these swaps but with a z6 vtec engine.

Re: d16y7 in a 91 hatch (ek99)
put a y7 in my bro's crx hf. used an a6 intake mani and the crx (hf) tranny. hf tranny sucks *** though. also kept the crx dizzy on there as well. do a search for d19y7 swap and i think a few things should come up. that's what we did.

Re: d16y7 in a 91 hatch (Braco11)
first what model is the civic your friend have (DX,SI?)
If its a DX you will have to swap intake/exhaust manifolds with the Y7. You may also have to take the drives side block mount(not the motor mount but the part that bolts to the block.) and swap it with the DX engine. You may also have to swap over the fan switch from the back of the block of the DX engine to the Y7 engine or wire it to the fan switch at the Y7's thermostat.
If its an Si you may have to swap over the same engine mount as above and the fan switch. Also you have to use the SI injectors unless you remove the resistor box and use the Y7 injectors.
Hope this helps
