Default Compression test results??????

Ok i have a h2b car and i just put it all back together and it didn't want to run right had new dizzy intake manifold new sensors ext. Was driving the car and it was overheating my cel came on for ect (coolant temp) got the car off the highway and it died and wouldn't start back up. Towed it to my house and did a compression test readings were 140 145 150 140 now in cyl 3 i poured a cap full of oil in the cylinder and ran the test again and the compression went up to 180. I think the car has a bad head gasket but someone told me when you put oil in the cylinders and the compression goes up that means the rings are bad. If its just a head gasket ill just slap another one on but how can i tell if the rings are bad without removing the pistons and rods?

Those compression test numbers are very low!!
How did you test this? Did you let the motor warm up & opened the throttle body when cranking the motor?

A stock motor (with stock cams) should be around 200 psi. Depending on which compression of course.

motor was running for a while then cooled down for about an hour or so did not open throttle body and its a bone stock motor so if the compression should be 200 its no where near that. the head gasket is pine but i cant tell if the piston rings are good or not i did drop oil in the cyl when i tested it and it raised up to 180 if that means anything regarding the rings

perhaps stuck to the piston rings, but if the engine is overheated piston-cylinder gap increases dramatically

try to pour the liquid into the cylinders to soften the deposits may lay down your rings in the piston from overheating

You should warm up the engine before measuring your compression. Also push in the gas pedal to open up the throttle body while cranking the engine.. That's how you should measure it.
