I have a friend that did the b16 swap into a crx so hopefully this helps. He had to have an idle regulator installed and he payed someone to connect it for him.I think this is the same type of problem. The only other thing I can think of is it may have something to do with your ECU.Sorry wish I could be more help but at least this gives you a direction to research...........FYI he showed me what they installed and its a small square box mounted on the top part of the firewall. good luck

yea i am hoping i can fix this before the end of the week, this might help you guys help me, the car surges like around 1500-2000 rpms (cant really tell dont have a tach) and it also does it while i am trying to drive at a constant speed with my foot very lightly on the gas. i hate it, it almost makes the car not driveable on the street cause i either have to accelerate or keep letting off the gas and getting back on it.

First of all Code 14 is Air Idle Control Valve, and all this does is regulates your idle speed when the car is warming up till you get to operating temperatures in which it then drops back your idle to normal. If you are getting surging this is do to something else on the vacumn line end. I would recheck all your connections. A faulty or non-operative AICV should not cause your car to surge like you are explaining, especially after your car is fully warm.

Again the surging maybe caused because of an improper vacumn connection... Check them all over again and listen for leaks and look for cracks.

but the surging only happens at a certain rpm like 1000-2000 rpms, it doesnt surge while its idling, would this still be cause by a bad vacume? i think its just the ecu agian.

Well I guess if you were having problems with the ECU before then it probably would be wise to try another and see what is up..

I have a 2000 Hatch with a D16Y8 (obd2) in it. when i use the obd2 ecu, I get a code 14 and it surges @ about 2000 rpms. Now...here is the weird part. I have a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness. When i use it with my obd1 ecu, i only get a code 43 (i think that the code), no code 14!

What do you think?

You can disconect the the iacv sensor on the back of the intake manifold and that will stop the surging for meanwhile. If you can you can try swapping it out for a known good one from a friend.
