Default Check codes?

How can I check what code its throwing without any equipment? I know there's a way...can someone help me out?

short the green service check connector under the passenger side of the dash, turn the key to "on" and count the mil blinks.

Stick a paper clip in the two little holes. One long blink is the 10, one small blink is one. Add them together and you have yourself a code.

Ex.. Bliiiink Bliiiiink Blink : 21. VTEC solenoid.
