Default B20vtec in a teg

i have a gsr and was thinking about going b20 bottom end. would it be worth it. i was going to get my b18c1 head put on it. the head has ferrera valve springs and retainers. if i get a b20 what pistons and rods should i get if any, so i can contiue to rev 8K safely. could i use the stock pistons and rods from the b20? also what type of HP will it put out once put together? sorry for the questions imma hybrid newbie

You're gonna need JE custom pistons to protect you head from bending valves. You can use stock b20 rods if you're only gonna rev to 8k. Depending on what your mods are, you should hit 200hp and feel more torque.

you don't "need" custom pistons, you can use the stocker b20 slugs (preferably the higher cr b20z pistons). There will be clearance, but not much for cams, cam sprockets, milling, etc. Worst case you can widen the valve reliefs. crvtec.com talks about the varous possiblities more in depth.

well, i've read that the b16a head will raise the cr by about 0.4 and i understand that the gsr comb. chambers are slightly smaller. So if you get the b20z bottom end you should be right back up the a 10:1 cr.

also, one of the most commonly recommended reinforcement mods (for 8k revving) is to get a block girdle setup for the b20. Seeing how you already have a gsr motor, you can simply yank the parts off...

just a q. u have an upgraded valvetrain, so why hurt your rev'ing capability by swapping to a b20 bottom end? you can sleeve and bore the gsr block for the same price as a b20 longblock. you can bore the gsr to 84.5 or 85mm..larger bore than the b20 84mm bore. and u can still rev to 9k or whatever you're rev'ing to now. you'll just have the smaller stroke of the b18c but you'll keep the girdle, vtec crank, etc etc.

so you saying that its better for me to just bore out and sleeve up the gsr??
i thought i could make more power with more displacement. with out thinning out my cylinder walls? im still learning the tech stuff about engines so please forgive me..lol

My buddy had a pretty stock CRVTEC in his 4th gen Integra. Internally it had JE pistons with like 11:1 c/r and ARP rod bolts. Otherwise it was just a stock B16 head, Skunk manifold, intake, header, exhaust, cam sprockets, clutch, and slicks. It pulled a 13.6 @ 100 which was ite for that setup. Now it's got a new CRVTEC in it with more shiet done! We'll see what it runs.

yes. when you resleeve the gsr block, you can then bore the f out of it. remember, you'll have a whole new iron ductile sleeve in there. here i'll give a small breakdown of displacement numbers.

> b18c 87.2mm stroke x 84.5mm bore = 1956ccs
> b18c 87.2mm stroke x 85mm bore = 1979ccs
> b20z 89mm stroke x 84.5mm bore = 1996ccs
> b20z 89mm stroke x 85mm bore = 2020ccs

the b20z has a ~40cc increase w/same bore over the b18c because of its longer stroke.
but whatever its up to you. imho i'd sacrifice the 40cc increase and keep the gsr.
