B20 Vtec Auto?
Guys I have a 2000 CRV. I was reading and talking with people about slapping on a Vtec head. THey said no problem but getting it to run may be an issue. For their swaps before they would run chrome ect but said that they do not know of anyone that has a cheap management system for an auto.....Has anyone here done a Vtec head on a B series block that was connected up with an auto tranny? If so can you fill me in!
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Re: B20 Vtec Auto?
i don't think an auto trans will shift high enough to make the vtec head useful.
I dig the crv, all of them. But if I had one I don't think I would scream it to 8000 rpm. I would probably use it to take kids to school, for camping trips, and for snow adventures.
then again who knows it might be awesome. if u do it post ur results.

Re: B20 Vtec Auto?
Reading quickly through the pdf repair manual, it has a PCM (powertrain control module) that is located below the dash under the kick panel on the passanger side.....aka where the ECU is. Therefore I would believe it is a seperate control system.
If I can figure out how this all works I will for sure do a nice little write up for others to reference Might just need to bolt on a small little snail of the extra umh the CRV needs....

Ok just did a little digging through mitchell, its a single PCM, so integrated control system. (Integras had an ECU and then it was connected to a seperate TCU) Which leaves you kinda screwed. I'd say you're going to have to swap in a manual tranny and convert to OBD1.

Re: B20 Vtec Auto?
You might be able to use the crv ecu for the tranny only, and run your motor off a chipped p28 or something. But like the171 said, it probably won't shift high enough to be useful. If you don't have a disability or something like that, you should just swap to a manual and have more fun and less headache.

Theres not really much you can do, I don't know of any engine management (at least nothing cheap) that will let you control the automatic tranny. Once you start throwing more power at it the automatic tranny is going to be your weak link anyway.

Re: B20 Vtec Auto?
Thanks again for all your guys help. To solve my power issue I am selling the 1st Gen CRV and upgrading to a 2nd Gen. A bit more power and what I feel is a better engine
