Default B20 vtec???

I know that the stock pistons hit the valves on a b16 head. Is there the same problem with the gsr head too?

Why do you figure that the valves will hit? crvtec.com says there IS clearance, even at more aggressive cam settings. To be safe, tho, the trick is to widen the piston valve relief indents to accommodate for the larger valve dia.

It does sound like there isn't a real problem unless you go crazy with cam timing, aggressive cams, head shaving, a thinner gasket or combos of these.

i believe at 4 degrees advanced on the intake cam there is piston-to-valve contact but anything under that is safe.. i've never actually done the clearance myself so i can't speak from experience.. i was merely saying the valves on the two heads were identical diameter so any problem with one will be present on the other..

Just replace the pistons with good aftermarket units with adequate cutouts and you will not have a problem. Besides, you should not be running a CR-VTEC with stock pistons anyway.
