b18b? b20? bwhaaa?
I am going to get a swap. I was looking at and preparing to buy a b18b off h motors online. 2200 plus shipping. I was thinking, swap it, drive it and then either a turbo or Vtec. SHould I get the b20 or b18?
I want to drive it hard and I have not seen any good b20's around here!! Slow swaps. I know you guys have the skinny and I am looking to get started. It will be in my 98 hatch. Any advice? Or should I just get a gsr and live with that till next summer.? Its a 1 grand+ difference? for 30 horsepower. I could spend the grand on a turbo in 6 months or so and beat the GSR right!!??

Not to be confused with "THE MAN"
Re: b18b? b20? bwhaaa? (madhatch)

Re: (VTECVillain)
how about this? B16 sir 2, its 100 bucks more and I will have enough left over for intake and header? I could scrape buy with a GSR but I will have to leave out anything extra and wont have room for unexpected costs. I read an interesting post about b16 pistons on a b18 block also.
Still looking for input, 2500-3000 bucks is a lot of money to some folks.

Why are you bumping a thread you haven't replied in yet?
Anyways, here's some "advice", so take it as you may. A B20 is just a B18b that's bored out to 84mm. So with that, the cylinder walls *may* be weaker due to less material. And if you're going to turbo down the line, it's something you might want to take caution with. But if you were going to resleeve, a B18b would be cheaper in the long run, since you can specify your bore size when you get it sleeved. *So in essence, you can bore a sleeved B18b to 84mm and have a built 2.0L*
But a B18c1, when built correctly will have more potential than both.

Just a thought, my friends B20 in his bubble ran a 12.9 at the track this past weekend.
He's got a gsr head, tranny, and Hondata with the usual IHE and slicks. However, the kid who drove it can drive with the best of them. I've seen that car go 14.6, then with a different driver go 12.9, goes to show you how important the driver is when racing. My advice go with the B20, if built right it can be reliable, but not as reliable as a B18c1, c5 for obvious reasons.

If you want to be slow....
IMO
You would be happier if you got a GSR.
You would kick yourself in the butt if you got a b16.
I'd prefer a b20 though.

Re: (nocaryet)
id say LS turbo. especially a junk yard turbo for less cash and you might be whooping on GSRs. i just saw a thread for a b20vtec and the guys WHP was like 167. LS turbo would match that easy if not give you more power. but this must be kinda off cause i have also seen dynos for 200+ hp b20vtecs. but i would go with LS turbo and maybe a GSR tranny if you dislike the LS tranny.

check out this guy's dyno for his b18b https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=363036
edit: you could do an lsturbo for the price of a c1. huge diffrence in ho IMO

Re: (shepworldwide)
I decided,
I am ordering a b16 sirII and then I am going to get the gsr block, After reading the post about b18b vs b16a and finding out about the "poor mans type r" buildup that is what I am going to do. Keep the vtec components together raise the compression and save a couple of bucks. I have a second hatch (my girls) I may have to do the turbo thing on that car just for the experiance.
But I will never let her win!
