Default b16a first gen VS b16a second gen

local shop in toronto has a first gen sir engine for 1500 canadian, and a second gen for 3500.

Now from some of the discussions i listend to here today, there isnt a whole lot of diffrence between the two engines, obviously the quality of the second gen is better overall, but in terms of what moves and stops inside is realitvly the same.

I am going to ask them what condition the motors are in ( milage and how they got to the shop in the first place, theft recovery is one thing, head on collision into a concrete wall is another)

now, if i get the first gen, for 1500, i really have 2000 grand to spend on internal modifications, plus i have an old lap top laying around so i can easily get a standalone manegment system. And in the end would have a sick *** motor anyway! Since i planned to modify the second gen in the future anyway, from a comparision stand point the first gen engine will recieve an extra upgrade of like another 2 grand!

So any comments would be appreciated, or points of view, i need to hear people other than my dad who thinks wasting money on anything but education is pointless, a friend whos "a passanger, not a driver" and a girlfriend that hates hondas with a passion.

so to sum it up

first gen b16a + 2000$ worth of mods plus 2000$ worth of mods in the future
or
second gen b16a + like a 2 year wait until i even touch the damn thing.

well basically it all depends on witch chassis this is going into. if anything other than a CRX, then you would eather have to get the HASport cable to hydro kit for the transmission, beacouse the 1st gen b16 transmission is cable, not hydroulic. so lets say for example you have a 92-95 civic. you would spend close to a grand just getting it in there and getting it operational. but if you have a CRX, then you would have the $2000 for performance parts. and if you have an 96-00 hatch, then just forget about the 1st gen.

P.S. i just found this info:

p30 pistons vs pr3 pistons would be the main thing that differs the 1st gen HP rating from the 2nd gen HP rating:

10.2 compression on 1st gen b16s and all USDM b16s pr3

10.4 compression on 2nd gen b16's JDM p30

Im sure there are other LITTLE differences, some people say cams are different and ecu timing and fuel maps.

the cam profiles on the 2nd gen B16's are better than 1st gen cams, as well as the OBD1 programing/electronics ownz over the non-OBD programing.

1st gen = OBD0
2nd gen= OBD1

Throttlebody size differs as well:
60mm = 2nd gen
58mm = 1st gen

oh man then just forget the 1st gen. going from OBD0 to OBD2 is going to cost you more $ and headache than you would believe. in your case, you might as well opt for the 2nd gen.

I am going to steal this from myself:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Nikon169 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> I could really use the $1000 that i'd save getting this engine but if it's a lot of work and shiz, ill get the 2299 swap (SiR 2) from hmotors. any input helps, thanks</TD></TR></TABLE>

Well, You can make it work, but it is have much of a hassle you want. You have to sell the Trans and axles (and other stuff). I would just get the SiR II swap. Plus 1st gen swap are old and one point in their life they sat for a while.

I would suggest finding a 2nd generation some where else.

Don't go 1st generation. To clarify, I have a built 1st gen in my hatch and it is strong, but cost almost as much to drop a 2nd generation.

Unless you can find mounts for cheap.
