Default B16 first start prep work

what did you do to your B16 before starting it the first time (to minimize the harsh startup?) i was told to spray WD40 into the cylinder via the spark plug hole, will this help lubricate the cylinder walls and will this have any negative effect (possibly detonate?) how about putting some assembly lube in there, and letting it soak for a while? thanks.
