Default After B16 Swap. Engine Surging.

I have a 90 Integra Hatch. I recently swapped in a JDM B16A First Gen. Most things ran smooth. After getting the car back on the road, whenver I would hold the gas pedal to cruise at a certain speed or even slowly accelerate to go a bit faster, I feel the car "surging" What I mean by surging is. the motor sounds the same, no real roughness with the surges same with the rev's on the tach. But I know it's surging cause I can feel the car pull say 100% to what I want it to pull then half a second later it pulls say about 75% and then repeats over and over again. both while crusing and accelerating. I don't feel the surging at WOT or anything tho. soemtimes when crusiing and it surges I can hear the exhaust kinda make a gagle type sound as if it runs out of fuel or something then regains composure. any ideas? all I could think of was fuel filter. but the fuel fitler and fuel pump or the ones that were in the car before the swap which ran fine. what else could it be? injectors need cleaning? TIA guys. She pulls hard none the less.

First of all, you might want to do a search. That being said, it sounds like the o2 sensors are in the wrong spot, I had the same symptoms with mine. Common problem. pins C8 and C16 i believe if you are using a pr3 or pw0 ecu - try switching them. Are you using the stock exhaust manifold or a header? any codes?

Sorry for my ignorance. I am currently throwing no codes. there is an aftermarket header that came with the motor(airmass to be precise) which originally only had 1 o2 hole right before the collector. previous owner welded on another hole for the second o2 right beside it so both sit right beside one another. I ahve a DC sprots header that only has 1 o2 hole as well obviously but when I ahd my exhaust work redone, I had them weld on another o2 hole right after the cat so that when I put my ehader on, one o2 can go on the actual header while the other goes a bit after the collector pipe. is this bad? I've heard of other ppl doing this and it worked fine for them?

It's not going to work with a regular pw0 or pr3 ecu - with those you need two o2's in approximately the stock position or you are going to get some surging/hesitation symptoms. Of course there are always exceptions to the norm. Doesn't sound like it's working in your case though. You might want to think about a hondata or some other chip solution to use just one o2 sensor. That would be my suggestion. Good luck

Hrmm..I could always just get a muffler shop to place the o2 holes on the 2-1 lower runners. thena tleast they'll be monitoring the right cylinders but just about 1.5 feet further down. damn this sux ha

WTF? This is not an everyday question on these threads and if there are a few that are the same, there not all described the same way. The is a mechanical error in the engine in which everyone has different causes.

As for the problem, I have a 93 hatch w/jdm gsr and it seems to do the same thing, but not as radical as yours. When i posted, a fellow h-t member stated that because i had changed the intake manifold with a few other mods and did not upgrade the fuel yet and still have the dx fuel pump, then it is lack of fuel. He also said that a V-AFC would do the trick. You decide

THankyou! I was eventually going to get a fuel rail with fuel pressure regulator eventually anyways just for tuning for my cams etc.
