2000 Si engine into 2000 EX
I've been searching the board trying to figure out which engine the 2000 Civic Si has and how easy it would be to transplant my EX's d16 with the Si's engine.
I know a lot of you are prolly going to tell me to swap in a bigger, more powerful engine, but the reason I'm looking at the Si's motor is because I figure the surrounding hardware of the Si and EX are pretty much the same, so it should be relatively easy to replace the engine. I think.
Also, I'd be content at 160 HP since I'm semi-environmentally-conscious and I really like getting exceptional gas mileage out of my Civic.
Unless, of course, anybody knows of another engine I could swap in that would also not require replacing/modifying a bunch of the surrounding hardware or electrical components.
The Si engine (what is it??), is it DOHC?
Thanks in advance.

Re: (Vtec96Lude)
Thanks for the feedback guys.
No, I don't have the engine, although from reading other posts concerning the b16, it doesn't seem that expensive to get. I've read things about OBD I vs. OBD II. If I grab a b16 off of a '00 Si, the OBD should be compatible with the '00 EX, right?
P.S., what is OBD?

On Board Diagnostics, and yes you want to be looking for an obd2 engine.

Yeah your definitely looking for a b16a2...............i dont know exactly what obd means but it varies with ecu's. like my p73 ecu for my type r motor is obd2....where as a lot of people tend to swap there obd2 with an obd1 that comes out of 94-95 gsr's. I would worry about finding your motor first and someone who can install in correctly the first time.

What's the difference between the 16b and 16a2?

The 99-00 Si has the B16A2 and OBD2B electronics which makes it plug and play compatible with your EX. The B16A2 is rated 160hp and is a 1.6L DOHC VTEC engine with a close ratio 5 speed tranny. This would be a direct bolt in to your car assuming that you get a complete conversion: complete motor, tranny, ECU, axles, shift linkage, etc.
There are many other choices besides the B16A2 Si swap. A B18C1 Integra GSR motor which has more displacement, making more power and noticeably more torque is also an excellent swap as well. Do some research on here and I'm sure you'll be able to narrow your choices down.
