What's the difference between a JDM S2000 and our USDMs? How can they run off of unleaded and we have to use premium? Also, is everyone here using premium? Or are some using super? Or possibly even unleaded?

they have slightly higher octane oversea i believe, they are all unlead.
wtf are you talking about when you say premium vs super?
read the manual you are only suppose to run 91+(read: premium) unlead only

nope, they don't. The octane ratings are different. Just because they have a higher number doesn't make it a higher octane.
I know in Japan they use RON as their octane. here in the U.S. and canada, we use RON+MON/2. Our 93 is the equivalent of their 97 or 98 octane.
I use 93 only. And only name brand gas. I put in a couple tanks of non-name brand crap and got some weird hesitation in 1st gear.
and yeah, wtf are you talking about "premium" vs. "unleaded". It's all unleaded, tard. It's premium, or super, or regular. Premium usually means 93, super is either 89 or 91, and regular is obviously the pee water 87.

up here in the Rockies we only have 85, 88, and 91 octane... unless you go to 7eleven, they have 85, 87, 89, 91 for some reason.
supposedly octane requirements are lower for high altitude but I haven't actually read that from a trusted source - its just heresay at the moment.

Yeah. Rocky states carry 85 as the lowest octane. The reasoning is that a combustion engine sucks in less air per cycle based on the density of the atmosphere.

As with any vehicle, you run the lowest octane you can without ping.

LOL as you can see I wrote this super early, wow. When I said unleaded I meant regular. I understand you're "supposed" to use premium, but would using super really make that much of a difference? Gas is expensive, and I have no doubt in my mind that it's going to sky rocket again in the not so distant future.
Honestly, I don't have one yet, its either an S2000 or a Del Sol with a 3 stage vtec swap (and all tricked out), but with an S2000 I wouldnt need to do a single thing to it since they're so perfect stock. And it'll come to about the same price in the end. Except for the gas prices which i'm a lil scared about.

dude, it's like 2 or 3 extra dollars every tank to use premium....if that. Gas prices in these car is the last thing you need to be worried about...nothing on this car is cheap to fix. clutches, tires, brakes, etc. are all things that you need to keep in mind also, plus insurance costs. If you put more then 5k into a delsol then you are out of your mind imo. i would rather drive a suzuki esteem.

first off. if you're going to be buying a car, you better ******* be able to afford to maintain it and run what honda recommends...which is premium gas. you can either spend the extra 30 cents/gallon now, or spend it later on fixing your motor when something goes wrong
secondly, that the hell is a stage 3 vtec swap? do you even know what you are talking about? if not, then i would suggest that you search and research cars instead of going from what-you-hear knowledge
lastly... about the sas prices. if you cannot afford the gas (or you dont want to spend the extra money for premium gas), buy a tiburon

you do realize that the difference in cost between regular and premium gas NEVER fluctates, right. You're not spending anymore money no matter how high gas prices get. It's always 20 cents more a gallon. Big whoop, 50 bucks a year.

I would have agreed with you until about a month ago - a few stations near my house had mid-grade 11 cents more than 'regular, and premium was 14 cents higher than mid.
It's back to the 10-cent gradients now though.

My fill ups usually consist of about 10-10.5 gallons. Gas is about $3.95 here for premium and $3.75 for 85. If I fill up 10.5 gallons of premium, it comes out to $41.475, say if I ever filled up on 85 it would come out to $39.375 that's a savings of a whole $2.10.
Granted if you ever wanted to run the cheap ****, I'm pretty sure the computer would kick out some timing if it started knocking. But if you're looking to penny pinch, then this is probably not the car for you.
