Default Transmission selection question.

I had both a Honda mechanic and a Toyota mechanic tell me I can fit an F20 in a FWD chassis if only I used a K20 transmission, since I have access to an HF CRX and a EK shell. Can anyone confirm that the F20 bolts to a K20 tranny?

Not even close...No two bolt holes line up together..You'll need an adapter plate.

just do an rsx type s swap.

why do people allways think they have some great imaginative idea. if other people havnt done it yet, its because its not easy, so be prepared to do some reasearch

no offense, but if you dont have the resources to find out whether or not the tranny will work then you probablt cant do the swap

i just know that when people post about this stuff they are expecting people to be like, "great idea", and "why didnt i think of that", and so forth.

its not worth it for too many reasons to list, just go kseries

I willing to put time and effort into something that might seem fun to me. And I like doing it by myself. Even your negative input is appreciated; I want to see how many people tell me its too much trouble or "You can't do it".

well. I have a spare F20 and an F22. I dont want to waste an F22 on a test project. The F20 is tired and has about 55k miles on it, so i'd sacrifice that before a 5k-mile F22. I have a rolling EK shell, and can get a CRX HF for pretty cheap. Just seeing if any of you guys have done it before thats all. Instead of buying a motor/tranny combo I'd only have to buy a K20 tranny. Gotta go look at one then I guess. Nothing else besides full custom seems to fit.

That Toyota mechanic helped a great deal in troubleshooting the previous project. The Honda one told me its too much trouble. I can tell the difference.

Im not going to tell you that you cant do it, because really, with the right amount of money, anything is possible, you could retrofit an F16 engine to it with the right money and engineering. All im going to comment on is the "Why" portion of it, why do you want to put an F20, which was designed for an FR platform car, and turn it into an FF setup, with a tranny that wont allow for the same kind of engine performance as the S2000's transmission, the weight and shape and size of the chassis will prevent the setup from being optimal as well.

The S2000 is great in the S2000, if it was a great and awesome platform, they'd have already had 1,000,000 different FF setup civics and integras with F20's and F22's, instead you have none...why? Because it aint worth the time...a low torque peaky horsepower engine that was engineered specifically for a specific chassis and mounting position. You'll yield mediocre results when and if you do get it up and running...and you'll have spent more money than it was worth if you want it for performance reasons.

I dont know about you, but to me, uniqueness hits a wall when you start getting into silly modifications...you could take the body off and be unique too, but would you really want to do that? And why? Is it that important what others think of your project?

I would suggest spending the money on a K20 out of an RSX Type-S, you'll end up with a faster car and have alot more money left over in the end.

Just for fun, sir. Thats why. Maybe I'll get fed up with my dumb ideas and end up with RWD CRX or EK, you'll never know. Summer is fun time.

well since you allready have an f20c that makes it a little more feasible. you can do it, but why?

if anything your rwd ek sounds like a better idea. i love to see custom stuff so good luck, but if it were me i would put the f in another light rwd car, like a corrola, or swap the f for a k snd make life easier for yourself.

also, sorry for coming across like a dick, but a lot of people start these threads to show off some great idea that they cooked up that is way out of thier means. you seem competant, but you should still wait till you get rich one day and can play honda legos with different chassis and engines just for the hell of it.

again, sorry

I'm already playing Legoes with cars. A swap into an AE86 would be fun, ur right, but I already have an FR car and wanted a mean FF in my stable using what I have.
