Stock Diff or Not?
I had my friends dad find me a s2000 from the auctions...it is a clean title 2000 wih 28k miles on there well i bearly hit 30....but how would i know the guy who owned it changed the rear diff or not because....i have a feeling he did because he had 19inch wheels he had the full exaust tein ra's and like the aem v2..all of which is irrelevant to a diff however i am thinkin he put good money into the parts and with 19'z someone would consider looking into a rear diff as well...soo what would be the best way to find out....?

there's no easier way to find out other than jacking up the car and seeing if the factory marks (yellow) on the fill plug match/line up with the mark on the case. That will only tell you the fill plug was once removed but wont tell you when the fluid was replaced. Have it replaced if you don't have service records from the previous owner. This is common knowledge when buying a used car, no service records=inspecting and replacing regular service items.

no but i drive aggresively...popping the clutch..and i want to launch it and i am afraid of messing it up and getting stuck somewhere and the person before could have not changed it and put stress on it soo might not be able to hold much longer...soo i just want to change it to be on the safe side.
just look at them bolts on the assembly itself ... if it looks untouched then its stock
diff ... or go to ur local dealership and let them check it out for you ...

what about other parts of the car? You will waste time/money by tearing down a working assembly. You'll get some warning noises before it lets go unless you launch the car at 7krpms on a normal basis.
If you have a friend that wants to open it up to see what's inside, you'll want to hope he knows what he's doing. Taking the diff assembly in and out of the car isn't as easy as changing spark plugs.

There's usually more than one reason why a person will change something. For the diff, a change in final drive is one. Check if your top speed in 1st or 2nd jives with the handbook located in the glove box. This alone won't tell you if it has been reinforced or not.
Good luck. Drop the clutch and hope for the best.
