Just because the plastic window is larger than the 02+ glass window, doesn't mean that you can see any more than the glass top. The glass top was designed to be the size it was because you specifically cannot see anymore out of the rear view mirror than what the mirror allows you to see.
Making the glass window the size it is allows for better design for the top to fold.
The plastic window allows more light into the cabin though with the top up.

about the same weight if u just clean the bugs of your bumper...a soft top would have been much lighter(the manuel style convert. like the miata)
