Default S2000 cleaning tips

I Just purchased a 07 silverstone/black leather S2k about 2 weeks ago. I haven't had the chance to clean it up. For some reason I don't like taking them to those hand car washes. I dunno why.. but anyways just asking to see what products you guys recommend. With my old hondas (integs, EGs) I would clean them with what ever towels I had laying around. Usually the dash was sprayed with armor all and left all shiny and oily. Any products you guys use that clean the dash and interior pieces with out leaving them all oily/sticky and what not. Any particular exterior towels (some one recommended micro fiber?)and soap to use? This is my first new car and would hate to scratch up the paint/headlights etc etc.. for using some random products

for the interior i spray it completely down with a form glass cleaner.. it needs to contain phoemona, which will lift allthe dirt and oils off the panels/dash...
then you can leave it with that new interior look or like me i jsut put a light coat of amor all.... i do this everytime to remove the old layer.. doesnt leave the oily build up as if you just go over and over it with more amor all...

exterior i use mothers or mequiers soap with micro mit or sponge.... then a shammy to die..... i rarely i mean RARELY put any amor all on my tires.... maybe a super light coat during the summer months..

plastic polish on headlights my JDM headlights often and rear window (AP1's)

good link silentdancer. best place to find answers for keeping the S beautiful. Since no one has recomended anything for the top, id say to get some 303 products for the vinyl so it doesnt fade out and crack.

Your car is silverstone man. You could run it through a sandpaper wash and you wouldnt notice swirls. I have a berlina one. If i clay and wax it one day, the next day, it looks all dusty like i've been in World war 2 with it. on the serious side though, Just use a quality wash. I have had good luck with meguiar's NXT products, and also great luck with Black Magic's car wash. For a wash mitt, use a real nice soft microfiber or lambs wool mit. If you had a black car, like me, you have to constantly spray the car bit by bit as you wash it to keep everything moist, and you have to never dip the mit back in the bucket to clean it off. Hose the mitt off instead of dipping it when you move on to a new panel. Also, use a different mit (i call it my dirty mitt) to use on lower panels like under the fenders, the fender liners, and under the rockers. Use a chamois to dry. I use an "absorber". It works great and lasts forever. Use a clay bar every now and then to get all the crap off it. Then top it off with a good SYNTHETIC wax like Meguiar's NXT or Turtle wax ICE. This will leave no white residue in your crevices (no not your crevices, the car's crevices). White residue in your crevices makes you look cheap...and used...you know? Use a microfiber towel to wipe the clay bar lube off. You can use the same one to wax if its not too wet because it will actually take the wax off better. Then use a new microfiber towel to wipe down the car once you have allready wiped down the car. This will make sure there's no wax streaking that looks like crap on darker cars. Or atleast thats how i keep my berlina fresh. Clay and wax only in a shaded area. Costco sells a pack of 24 microfiber towels for $9.99. I suggest you indulge. For a finishing touch, I like to spray shine my fender liners. Make sure you protect from overspray. <~~~ I'm so **** about cleaning my car. But i used to do it for a living back in the dizzle.

thanx guys for all the info. I just bought my self a micro fiber mit, some micro fiber towels and some meguiar's soap. I still need to buy one of those shammy water absorber drying towels. I just like my interior clean but not all shiny and greasy/oil looking so Im still in search for something I can use right out the bottle. the link to S2Ki.com was helpfull. Lots of stuff there though, need to take my time and read

why do u guys put that shiny stuff on your dash? it makes the car feel oil which is disgusting imo.
I just use a microfiber cloth+water+hand soap and wipe the interior.

you should use upholstery cleaner on your dash if you dont want it to crack. This gets all the old armor all off the dash as well. I would use a sparing amount of protectant like armor all after i did that, though. The reason people use armor all is not only for appearance, it also hydrates the leather and plastic. That stuff will crack if it dries out...kinda like you see on old miata dashes or old tires. You dont have to use a TON of armor all either....just use it sparingly so it doesnt get disgustingly shiny. I wouldnt use any windex or anything with harsh chemicals on my dash or upholstery. You should also use leather wipes or leather conditioner to clean your seats and center console peices, and shift boot. Again, this keeps everything from cracking or peeling.

I know they make cleaners specifically for rag tops but do u have to use them every time u wash your car? or is it a thing u do every couple of months when it gets dull? can I just spray water and car wash soap on it..whats the proper way to maintain your top and keep it a healthy looking black color. BTW this is a garage car that only sees the weekends mostly nights, if that. So sun fading wont be a problem.

My friend gave me this meguiars leather product. Its meguiar's gold class rich leather cleaner/conditioner. anyone use it before? I think I might give it a try. BTW I can use leather cleaner on everything inside the interior right? dash, door panels, shift boot.. etc etc..

The BMW top cleaner and RAGTOP stuff doesn't need to be used very often... 2-3 months maybe, unless you're super ****. I've used it and it kept an 00 plastic rear frame top black. I use soap the rest of the time I was the car and it's fine.

That Meguiars leather cleaner is good stuff, just use it sparingly. You can use it on anywhere there's leather (seats, door panels, center console trip, shift boot) but it makes plastic a bit hazy and slippery. Dash is rubberized, so Armor all works better on that.

to dry the outside i make sure the entire car stays wet throughout the washing so no soap streaks show up, then i use a tool that has a silicone blade and works like a squeege(spelling?) to get the bulk of the water off, then i use 2 microfiber towels to wipe the rest, but go quick enough that the small amount of water doesnt dry up. i use 2 towels because they start pushing water if you hit big wet spots. this takes 30 seconds and leaves the outside flawless.

inside any leather cleaner and conditioner works well but comes up the first time u sit neway. on the dash armor all makes several products, the protectant is the one i believe that leaves it oily.(which you want because the sun is magnified through your windshield and will dull and crack unless protected)....but also they make a dashboard "cleaner" which simply removes dirt and such to clean the dash, before you would protect it. but the cleaner leaves the material looking nice so thats an option.

If you sheet your water, you won't need a California Blade. It will also make drying your car alot easier, and less wet!
