s1000?
I know everyone hates rumors but I read in the new road and track that honda was thinking of an s1000, a baby brother to the s2k, with a one leter high reving engine that puts out about 130 horses and is under 20 thousand dollars. Has anyone else heard anything about them?
i also read this, and also hope that it doesnt happen as well. honda doesnt need this car, i think its a sad attempt to capture the interest of people who want an s2000 but dont have the money. and they said its actually only going to make 120 hp, so thats going to mean like 80-90 to the wheels.
There's a 120 hp Lotus Elise thats capable of <6 second 0-60's. So it's possible to see a good car come from this.. Still don't see it happening in the real world.

speeking of the rx-8 i was right behind one for the first time, and i thought it looked really awesome except for the altezza style tailights, but oh well. and this s1000 would also be front wheel drive too...

believe it or not, the stock s2000 tail lights are considered "altezzas" too.

Yea so are the tail lights on some Lexus'. People just want to hate for no reason. I see no problem with Altezzas except for the over board ones that are different colors of the rainbow and stuff. If it looks good, it looks good..but some people don't like it just cause its not "Jdm y0" . Lol it's all good though, whatever floats your boat.

yeah i know that, but the s2000 tailights atleast have a dark housing and dont look that bad. the rx-8's didnt look toooooo bad either it was just kinda chrome and i dunno, cheasy.

The RX-8 seems dumbed down form the old Rx-7. The rx-7 did low 5's for 0-60.. the new one is at least half a second behind, and that's with a more powerful engine. They really should have turbo'ed it. Turbo rotary's just sound sweet.. screw reliability =P
After thinkin about it.. I'd like to see this 1 liter Honda, just as a very limited production jsut to show they can do it. I wouldn't buy one, and I don't know many people that would. I think it was mentioned earlier.. if you're gonna go that small, start looking for a Kart.

in the same issue of road and track, they talk about a new rx-7 thats coming out in 2006, and they actually sound pretty serious about it. they said theyre going to build it on the rx-8 platform but its going to be a two seater and theres going to be a turbo engine available with an estimated 300 hp alongside the standard 240 hp from the rx-8. they also mentioned there might be a version of the rx-8, but a two seater convertible, which would be the new miata.
but not to jack this thread, um, i dont like the s1000 cause its stupid.

Lol stupid indeed but people will buy. I was shocked to see alot of Toyota Echo out there on the road. Engine wise I don't know they are about but it is by far one of the ugliest peice of **** I've ever seen on 4 wheels.
Echo = S1000 =

I would never buy one but it seems like it may be a good car to take on the market that the miata appeals to, then again isnt the miata rear-wheel drive and the so called s1000 ff?....
S1000 would be FR. And not imported to US from what i've read.
Hasn't anyone thought of CRX parallels? Small, nimble two seater? Cept' this would be a roadster. Horsepower doesn't make a car you know.

are you kidding me?? that would excelent! Haven't you learned from the miata or the neon acr that it doesnt take much extravegance to make for a pure, fun drive? I'm bummed to hear that they wont import it. I also heard a rumor about an S2200. I heard it would be a hard top 2.2 ltr...hmmm .
void reply if the car is not FR

Look at the lotus Elise, Opel Vectra ect and look how many people complain that they're not imported. I think It would sell well. Then again it might be honda's attempt to lower it average of cars the pollute the air or a economical gas sipper to comply with the US CAFE and other BS laws.

If Honda made a MR I would hope it is powered by a K series motor.
I think something along the lines of an MR2 setup with a K motor.
I would buy a sub-20K MR roadster with a K series.......drop in a DC-5R motor and youve got a 2000lb rocket...add some Toda cams, 3" collector equal length header + muffler and a decent intake and youll have a 220whp MR that could rip some **** up. For maybe 25K at most....but Honda doesnt have enough ***** to build an MR with a better power to weight ratio than an NSX for less than 1/3 the price of the NSX

FWIW, I'll play the devil's advocate and say this: GREAT IDEA!!! As long as the Curb weight is 1/2 that of S2k, I believe that a little roadster with HP output of 120 at the crank is definitely good enuf in terms of P to W ratio, not to mention that sweet whining sound the little high strung engine makes at 10k+ RPM's!! Ahhh..the sweetest sound! Hopefully, this new 1liter powerplant will sound like this:

Ok, if only Honda bump the HP/liter to 300 or more.:-)
Plus, it's the perfect car for super tight switchbacks--vs. S2k? This little rocket will eat it alive. But knowing that Honda won't settle for anything but super rigid chasis in which to optimize suspension geometry and a crash-safe monocoque frame to pass NHTSA crash testing with flying colors, the *Un-Obtanium* that makes up 99% of the car's chasis that contributes to the little roaster's target curb weight of 1400lbs. will definitely cost more than $20k!
...well, at least one can dream, right?
