rollbar options
I need an scca approved rollbar to participate in track events. So far I have only seen the Cusco 4pt and the Elda Engineering one. Are there other options? The Elda is real nice but I'm not sure if I wanna drop $700 on a rollbar when the Cusco one is $300. Any opinions appreciated.
i have seen them both and i think the cusco safety21 is the better choice since you have a budget in mind.. im personnally running cusco chromoly 6pt cage in my s and it was pretty difficult to install in the car..
it made the chasis stiff like a go-cart though...

I'm guessing the soft top still works with the Cusco. Do you think the 4 or 5pt. is a "do it yourself" job or should that be done professionally? Do the stock seats still function normally?

Its a bolt in affair, so if you should be able to do it yourself without too many problems. Its a time consuming job, if I recall correctly.

yes your soft top will work fine.. you will lose some seat travel, since the roll bar will sit in between the back of the seat and the stock rollbar cover... i had an issue with the oem seat belt though.. (the buckle that is attach to the oem bar didnt have any clarance, so i removed it and went with some 4pt harness instead...)

I would suggest against the cusco cage, but the rollbar will meet your needs. Running a cage on the street is not a good idea unless it's padded properly and you use the factory 3 point SRS system instead of harnesses. Harnesses will limit your movement in the car to see blind spots etc etc. Having anything of dense material close to your head in an accident is liable to cause more harm than good.

I have seen the cusco (aka monkey barz) in person.
needless to say I wasn't to impressed. seems to be more of a carshow item, than saftey item
On all the critical joints it was held together w/fasteners instead of welds...and the piping wasn't as thick as I would have liked to see it.
I have an AP race bar in my ITR.. doesn't autopower make anything for you guys??

EDIT: I checked.. they don't. A friend I autox w/has a custom made one is his S.. looks pretty stout, If you'd like his contact info I can get it to you. However it was done here locally in UT

I came across the ridiculously priced roll bar for the S2k. It certainly is bad *** looking, allows full use of the hard and soft top, BUT....the major down fall is the price. Just shy of $1200....and yes, you guess it...MUGEN makes it. $1,150 to be exact.
I had the Auto Power in my Integra...and I think the S2k is the only car they DON'T make it for.

I've read on s2ki.com that the Cusco cage is a piece of garbage and could be a death trap......
They all seem to recommend the Elda. Cheack out the site if you're wondering what I;m talking about.

Always has been and always will be as long as they keep making them the way they do.

If not, then S2K owners have very little choice besides the Bitterman bar for something that's at least SCCA legal.

No, Auto Power does not make a roll bar for the S2K.
I was just asking if there was anything special that made the S2 bars expensive or if it was the lack of supply and increase in demand.

autopower chose not to make one for the s2k b/c too much cutting would be required to make one properly fit for SCCA certification.
as for the elda bar, it's not cheap b/c they need to make $$$ and to make up for the costs of building one, that's why it sells for that price.
The mugen roll cage is for RHD, unless they are building them for LHD now.
The stock setup is fine unless you plan on running racing seats with harnesses, then you need a harness bar that typically comes with a roll bar/cage.
