Default question bout 2000 s2000

just curious, im lookin into buyin an s2000. how is the car accelerating from a dead stop. A friend of mine test drove one for me cause im not that good at a stick yet and he said the car didnt really launch off the line. Im curious if this is just the way they r or is that one messed up or somethin. And also the car from wat i saw under the hood had a aftermarket cold air intake but dnt know wat else so who knows. Any input will b greatly appreciated.

it's probably more like your friend doesn't know how to drive stick very well either.....

this car is not easy to launch properly.... it takes time and parctice.... but if you're a good driver and you know how to launch it you should see 0-60 times in the 5.4-5.6 area....

well does the car when accelerating off the line have a good pull to it. thats wat he was sayin, maybe he wasn't launchin it right, but could the intake cut down the low end rpm?

Its a honda, its lacks TQ, what do you expect? The car wasnt ment for drag racing anyway...

If your lookig for more low end, take a look at the 2004+ models with the 2.2L motor.

The car doesnt feel like a car that can run a 13sec. 1/4...but it can. Your friend probobly has the same mind state that other people do that drive torquie cars that can throw you into the seat off the line when they run the same...the S2000 is a peeky engine, and has to be driven a specific way to get the performance out of it. IM guessing your friend is like you, probobly doesnt have a good manual transmission background and certainly didnt know how to drive the S2000 properly.

Get the car...you wont regret it.

he drives a neon and talks about telling what an engine sounds like in order to determine if its built properly??

sounds like you should get some friends.

Well...you have a friend who is experienced in driving a higher horsepower FRONT WHEEL DRIVE car, which is a TOTALLY different world than an FR setup, especially a car with an FR platform and perfect weight distribution.

I have to ask though...just how many S2000's has your friend driven? His comment that it doesnt "Sound like a good one should" would tell me that he's either just talking out of his *** or he has ALOT of experience with S2000's, and if it was the latter (and take no offense to this) but i doubt he'd be happy with a Neon with a turbo. lol

Anyways...take some time and learn how to drive a stick first off (so you dont burn the clutch out of the car and then act like some people do and start complaining how the S2000 is a piece of crap because they wore the clutch out and it isnt pulling as hard)...then go drive a few of them, get a feel for what they are like, pick the one you like the best and then judge for yourself.

I hate to say this because it sounds kind of generalizing, but i wouldnt hold much faith in what the owner of an SRT-4 had to say about an S2000, from my experience, SRT-4 owners tend to feel their cars are one of the most amazing things every created by a car company, and they like to discuss things like how a car that doesnt run 13's in the 1/4 aint **** and you gotta have a turbo to enjoy anything...again, no offense to you or your friend, but maybe next time you go looking, go by yourself.

no i know ive told him this, im basically ignorin his opinion bout the car and jus going on wat he says bout the tranny and clutch cause i would be screwing myself by doin it on my own. i love the s and i full intend on gettin one. on another note when racing the car wat rpm is the best to shift at? dnt flame my friend, he is also my boss he's bout 48, before he got the srt-4 he didnt belive a 4 cylinder could move that fast. because he still had the old school ideals of bigger the engine and hp the better. he is now introduced into a world of 4 cylinders and power to weight ratios. hes learnin

big engine small engine....

only way to make power is the best way to get air in FAST, and air out FAST....

basic logic to make HP....

Btw ya 00-03 s2k are great to shift right before redline, like just before u bounce it off revlimiter....

i mean its a honda they can handle it, i did a 9500 revlimit on my b16 and could bounce it all day and not have a single problem.....

but ya the s2k doesnt have much tq off the line but makes up for it when u get into vtec it just launches and gets alot of tq and hp to make this peaky engine, shoot the car into low 14's high 13's.....

but ya this car is def more of a track ***** than a drag racer....

BUY IT!!!

Im not flamming on him or anything, he's got a quick little street racer car, im just saying, people with SRT-4's tend to think VERY highly of a car like that, that is pretty much ONLY good for running light to light quick and giving teen's hard ons when they go to the strip and flirt with 13sec. 1/4 mile times out of a $15k-$20k Dodge neon...i was just saying, id probobly disregard what he had to say about the S2000 given the kind of car he drove and his comments about "sounding like a good one" given he probobly has no experience driving or working or "listening" to an S2000.

Its not made to launch either way. Take it to a road course and compare it to your friends Neon. We'll talk about how much the torque difference matters then.

I can't wait to get a new clutch. I'm going for 13.4 in my current state.

Learn to drive it very well, race him, and laugh at his facial expression as you launch hard on him.
