Default Question about AP1 vs AP2

Hey guys!

New to the forums here, I've been browsing around for awhile, and at s2ki.com and I decided to get a few things cleared up.

I'm planning on buying a 2008 S2K this summer, and I was wondering if the top speed is reduced for the AP2 models due to it's 8,000 rpm redline. I've read the AP2 accelerates faster, but I've seen videos of peoples AP1's and they can hit 270km/h at exactly 9,000 rpm. Could you achieve this on an AP2 aswell, or would the lowered redline cap the speed?

Thanks in advance!

P.S: Anyone have any tips for me about S2000's?

Overall top speed for the AP2 is lower than the AP1 (mathematically); however, since drag is an issue, both cars will top out at around the same MPH/KMH. Which ends up being in and around the area of 155mph or so. (varies depending on downhill/uphill, tail/head wind, and so forth.)

This is certainly not the first sports car I've owned. Between here and S2ki, I've never heard so many people so concerned about the "top speed" of the car in question. Who gives a expletive and why?

i whole heartedly agree. unless you are at nuremberg or on a huge oval track its not really a concern. you want top speed? but a mercedes or some euro car thats designed/geared for the autobahn.

haha, it's not like I'm going to use that speed, I was just curious about the theory regarding AP1 and AP2's performance.

The s2k would be my first sports car. I currently drive a '90 Buick LeSabre LE with a couple of mods on it, but this summer I'll have enough to either buy a demo S2k, or I might even pick up an '07.

The AP2 6th gear ratio is lower. Meaning the gear is higher. But I'm not sure by how much. Theoretically, even with the lowered rev limit, the speed limit should be the same. One number went up as the other number went down. You dig?

@LAS2K

I didn't do it myself, I'm not that eager to mod lol my brother did this a while back, its just i/e. And hey, theres a bunch of people on youtube that manage to get a couple of Buicks up to 1000hp haha, but I'm pretty sure they've done an engine swap.

@B Serious

What's wrong with Demo's? The Honda dealer where I live is selling an '07 S2000 with a couple of package upgrades in white for $37,600 (CAD) and it only has 5,000 km's on it. Thats really good considering the starting price for a new one is $50,600 (CAD). After all, Demo's are just cars in the showroom the manager drives, or let's other test drive, right? The only problem I could see is new drivers not shifting properly or wrecking the clutch.

I guess a demo wouldn't be all bad for a car like an S2000. If you buy it used, chances are it was beat on anyway, but it will have more miles. So I KINDA retract my prior statement.

They are pretty solid cars. Revving the engine up and driving it within it's parameters is no problem. 5000km is like 3k miles, so no big deal there. Just make sure you get a good warranty on it. A Demo could mean anything. A salesman/manager could have driven it, it could have been a track testing mule, it could have been test driven for 3k miles (F that), it could have been taken home by customers for overnight test drives, etc. etc.

If you get a great warranty and the car looks and drives smooth, you may be in good shape. I just saw the demos go thru a lot at the dealer I worked at. If you were buying a car like a camry that wouldn't have been beat on if it was owned by a normal person, then I would strongly suggest a NO demo policy.

I guess an S2000 is a little different.

put it like this... if u were given a free car, with no strings attached, how would you drive it??? now go into the dealer with the same mindset...

if u do decide getting it, make sure u get a great warranty

You're right. They did get it as a free car. My brain is fried. I knew I said NO demos for a reason.

Wow, I never knew demo's were that beat up lol I always thought they just took light driving for testing, and a couple of highway runs. By the looks of it, it looks top notch. I'm considering a test drive, but it would be helpful if we REALLY knew how the car was treated. I am also *slightly* considering a used S2000, but the problem is that chances are its been heavily used...i mean, who buys a sports car and drives slow..and shifts at 3,000rpm. If worse comes to worst I might just put a down payment and try to get a new one.

IIRC, 1,2,3,4 are shorter. 5 and 6 are longer. Maybe 5 is shorter as well.

You'll have to ask an AP2 owner. Look for the most rainbow, flamed out, pink hair guy in the neighborhood.
