Patching up a soft top?
So I have 2 small tears and was wondering where I could get some patch work done to the soft top instead of replacing the whole thing. They are about quarter-half dollar sizes. Anyone know what places could do this?
I've had four convertibles and have found that black Gorilla Tape works as well as anything else. Cut a round patch (putting the tape on wax paper makes it 10x easier: Gorilla tape is *sticky* stuff!) and apply it on the inside. I used a black Sharpie from the outside to hide the light-colored underside of the tape.
It also makes a great reinforcement for wear spots on the inside of the top.

I fixed mine on my own for just a few bucks. Go to a fabric store like joann's, or hancock's or wherever and pick up some heavy duty canvas/vinyl. The kind I got came in like a 3 pack that you can cut to whatever size you need.
Then go to advance, or autozone and pick up some stuff called goop

Use the goop per directions and place the patching material over the tears. Mine have held up perfectly since I did it a few months ago. No leaks or anything. You won't be able to go top down for a day or so while it dries but its a fix that will only cost you $5 or so rather than go to a shop somewhere that will charge you an arm and a leg for pretty much the same thing. gl with it and let us know how the fix goes

When I was using glue, I tried several different materials. The easiest black material to usewas nylon from luggage straps, old backpacks, etc. I used a match to seal the ends of the patch before gluing it on. I've used 3M Weatherstrip adhesive and it was *messy*
Purchased some vinyl and the goop stuff, and will be doing work on the top later tonight when it gets cooler. Hope it works. BrandonS2k, did you patch it from the insides with the vinyl, or the outside?

I just had a small tear patched on my soft top. I went to a convertable replacement shop it only cost me $15 and it worked perfect. They just cut out a circle of convertable top and used an adhesive and stuck it on the inside of the top then they just put a little more adhesive on the outside to stop the tear from spreading.
I did not use a circular patch, i just cut a good size of the vinyl that I needed, and put the goop on it. It's holding pretty well. I'm impressed with it. It rained a lot today, and still is, and it's holding up fairly well.
I repaired a small hole in my top with this. I taped the outside to hold the cut closed and dabbed several layers on the underside (no patch, just sealant) and let it dry overnight. I did take sandpaper to remove rough spots on the metal frame and pre-cleaned the repair area with alcohol, prior to adding the sealant. Once the sealant had dried, I removed the tape. The hole hasn't ripped any further and has held up well for months. I also used this stuff to re-enforce worn areas that hadn't worn through yet. Only complaint, I wish it were black instead of clear. A larger hole would likely need a patch, I advise against trying to stitch anything.
