oil consumption
When I first bought my 03 S2K from an Acura dealer, it was about a quart low, though the oil was clean. I got in a wreck (documented here), got it back and changed the oil immediately to 5.2 quarts of Royal Purple and a PureOne filter. 1500 miles later, I'm a quart down again (well, added the 0.8 that was left), and the oil is squeaky clean. I'm sure it was dino oil in the car when I got it (dealer change) -- I figured they just didn't put enough in.
Is this common? I also bought a 4/48K mile warantee through Acura on it. Any recourse there? The car only has 26K on it.
Thanks guys-
Tom

I got my 01 at 26K. I'm at 32k. I immediately changed the oil -- Mobil1/OEM filter and like you was consuming alot of oil 1 quart/1K miles. I just did another oil change 1K miles ago. And now I'm can barely detect any oil consumption. The car's been on dino with the first owner...my driving hasn't changed -- actually it's gotten more aggressive as I got better with the car.
Don't know if it's common, but anything within a quart of consumption within 3K miles is not unusual.

alot of s2k's burn synthetic, try regular oil, or get some crank vents. my 04 s2k has 54k and never burned a drop, not even a 1/2 quart between changes, i use castrol gtx btw!

Mine burns ZERO with synthetics and a catch can. Very little end up in the can, though.

not necessarily. But it would be hard to prove
VQ's have been recalled because of it. Like they said as long as it is reasonable it won't matter

That's the first I heard of Royal Purple. Then again, they do put a lot of detergent in it. It probably cleaned the hell out of your motor. People who have used it on newer lower mileage motors have had no complaints. :shrugs:

you were doing 140 most the way? LOL
thats quite a bit of load for an extended period. Suprised your tires didn't overheat as well. Remind me not to buy your car

buy krankvents. they stopped my oil consumption. i used to burn 1 quart every 1000 miles and now i burn none.

I bought a totaled car (for a project) that was about 3 quarts low when I got it. I was pretty dissapointed, but couldn't find any signs of leaks and after I filled the oil and started it, it still ran nice and smooth. Hopefully it wasn't too far past its time for a change.
Mine is always fine, I don't think it burns any, but I was told that it says in the manual they burn a quart between changes.
I haven't looked it up, but next time I'm looking through it I'll try to find a page number to cite.
