It doesn't sound like an overly difficult question, provided you have an answer. Otherwise, why even reply?

Because I'm at work & I'm a Forum Troll.

It doesn't sound like an overly difficult concept, provided you use common sense. Otherwise, why even ask?

Honestly, there are several threads about tires, offsets, and all the goodies. Search a little.

x2. Not just search a little...how about just search to begin with. The amount of information and knowledge gleaned will more than make up for the hassle of not getting the immediate answer you desire.

The problem is most people don't go wide with 17's and TireRack has very limited wheel width selection. For 18's, 10" and 10.5" wheels are the norm and will fit with stock fenders. For 17's, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what the largest size that can be run on a stock car is. I've seen some people comment that 10" is possible, but I've never seen anybody do it. I've also heard that going 10" wide on 17's isn't possible due to contact with some suspension parts and/or the fender depending on offset.

I think you should worry about the fronts.

Since you've titled this maximum traction, where are you losing traction that needs an increase in wheel and tire width? Personally, this car is light enough that anything wider than a 255 tire in the back would be deamed "too wide" for the car. Although that doesn't stop guys running 275+ in the back.
